Ho Chi Minh City police uncover fraud case of 'fixing case' for former Director of Registry Department

On September 12, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department informed that it had clarified the case of fraud involving defendant Dang Viet Ha (former Director of the Vietnam Register).

Accordingly, while the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department arrested the suspect and searched vehicle inspection centers across the country, Mr. Dang Viet Ha was afraid of being discovered for his violations and being prosecuted, so he sought a way to "run away from the sentence".

Mr. Ha, through Lai Thai Phong (37 years old, from Bac Giang , living in Hanoi, Deputy Head of the Department of Motor Vehicle Inspection, formerly Deputy Chief of the Office of the Registration Department), gave Nguyen Van Chung (44 years old, living in Hanoi) 100 thousand USD to find a way to collect information and "fix the case" for Mr. Ha.

Even though he knew it was impossible, Chung still received the money and appropriated 100,000 USD from Mr. Ha.

Based on collected documents and evidence, on September 11, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department issued a decision to prosecute and arrest Lai Thai Phong for "bribery brokerage" and Nguyen Van Chung for "fraudulent appropriation of property". The above decisions and orders were approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy.

It is known that under the direction of the Ministry of Public Security , the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department is expanding the investigation of many cases related to violations in the field of road and inland waterway vehicle registration. Up to now, the Police Department has prosecuted 204 defendants for "Giving bribes", "Receiving bribes", "Brokering bribes" and many other related crimes.
