The incident left the Princess hospitalized and in critical condition. Her mother, Queen Maxima, had to leave an event at Noordeinde Palace early to be with her daughter.
"Her Royal Highness Princess Orange (Princess Amalia's title) has suffered a fractured arm after falling from a horse. She has undergone surgery in hospital. Further details will be announced when it becomes clear how her official duties and other commitments will be affected," a statement from the Dutch Royal Household said.
This is not the first time Princess Catharina-Amalia has suffered an injury due to her passion for horse riding. According to Libelle, the Princess dislocated her shoulder in another fall from a horse.
Sharing with author Claudia de Breij in the book Amalia wrote about the Princess herself, she said: "I fell off the horse. And I always knew very clearly, whether I would be okay or not after the fall."
Princess Amalia also humorously repeated a familiar saying of horse lovers: "You are not a true horsewoman until you fall off your horse seven times."

Princess Catharina-Amalia's accident is also a reminder of the inherent risks of equestrian sport , even when done in the safest and most professional of royal environments.
Currently, Princess Catharina-Amalia studies Politics , Psychology, Law and Economics at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
In recent years, she has begun to take on more public duties, including foreign trips and state visits. Princess Amalia will become Queen of the Netherlands in the future, following in the footsteps of her father, King Willem-Alexander.
Royal Passion
Princess Catharina-Amalia is known to have loved horse riding since she was a child. On the Dutch Royal Family's website, Princess Amalia's hobby section also clearly states "loves horse riding".
In 2022, the Dutch Royal Family celebrated World Animal Day with a photo of the Princess riding her horse named Mojito. In her book Amalia , she also confided: "I am myself on horseback. If you really want to know me, you have to see me riding a horse."

Horse riding is not only a personal pleasure but also an integral part of the tradition and identity of many European royal families.
For hundreds of years, horse riding has been associated with the nobility, not only as a means of transportation or military training method, but also as a symbol of power, elegance and class.
Luxury hobby of European aristocracy
Maintaining a healthy herd of horses and participating in professional equestrian activities is not a small cost.
Owning and caring for a horse requires a significant financial commitment, including the cost of purchasing the horse (a thoroughbred can cost millions of dollars), modern stables, premium feed, regular veterinary costs, as well as specialized equipment such as high-quality saddles, boots, and helmets.
Not to mention hiring a professional trainer (which can cost hundreds of euros per hour) and participating in international equestrian tournaments or events, where travel, accommodation and horse transport costs are also not insignificant.

For example, in the United Kingdom, the late Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III were both famous for their love of horses and equestrian activities, including equestrianism and obstacle riding.
The cost of maintaining the royal stables and participating in these events is enormous, funded either from public funds or the personal fortune of the British Royal Family.
This shows that horse riding is not only a hobby but also an important part in maintaining the image and traditions of royal lines.
