Cong Phuong: Regaining his peak with a familiar jersey

Cong Phuong officially wears the number 10 shirt at Truong Tuoi Dong Nai Club to compete in the 2025-2026 season. The shirt number that was once associated with the peak years of his career now returns to the former HAGL striker, promising to bring new vitality to the team that is dreaming of promotion.

Number 10 returns to Cong Phuong after many years

Cong Phuong is the owner of the number 10 shirt at Truong Tuoi Dong Nai Club in the 2025-2026 season. After many years, the Nghe An striker will once again wear the familiar shirt number, which is associated with his name.

In his first season playing for Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc (now renamed Truong Tuoi Dong Nai), Cong Phuong wore the number 70 shirt. However, this season, the Southeast team gave the number 10 shirt to the captain, when Ho Sy Giap gave it to his teammate. This action was not simply a transfer of the number on the back of the shirt, but also showed respect, solidarity and sacrifice for the common good of the group.

In the Vietnamese national team at many levels in the past, Cong Phuong often wore the number 10 shirt.

In his career, the number 10 has always had a special meaning for Cong Phuong. He wore this number in the U.19 Vietnam, U.23 Vietnam, the national team as well as at HAGL. That was also the peak period, when Cong Phuong shone brightly, becoming a symbol of the "golden generation" of players that Mr. Duc had worked hard to cultivate. Therefore, being able to wear the old number again after many years is not only a commemoration, but is also expected to help Cong Phuong regain his peak form, affirm his class and become a spiritual support for the whole team.

If in Japan, Belgium, Korea and even when returning to Ho Chi Minh City Club, Cong Phuong had to choose different shirt numbers from 28, 15 to 21, then now, number 10 has returned. It brings with it the expectation that the striker born in 1995 will be the locomotive, contributing greatly to the promotion ambition of Truong Tuoi Dong Nai Club. The number 10 shirt will be the motivation for him to regain his explosiveness, continue to become a leader, opening up opportunities to bring the club closer to the promotion goal.

Two former HAGL players, Xuan Truong (6) and Minh Vuong (8), also kept their familiar shirt numbers at their new team, Truong Tuoi Dong Nai.

Besides Cong Phuong, two former teammates at HAGL, Luong Xuan Truong and Tran Minh Vuong, have joined the Southeast team and brought much hope… also with familiar shirt numbers. Xuan Truong will wear shirt number 6, while Minh Vuong will wear number 8. This trio used to be pillars at HAGL, now reunited in new shirts, forming an experienced central axis to lead the Truong Tuoi Dong Nai team.

In football, shirt numbers sometimes go beyond their numerical value, becoming a symbol of role, responsibility and even aspiration. For Cong Phuong, number 10 is not only a familiar shirt, but also an affirmation: he is still there, ready to shoulder the responsibility of bringing Truong Tuoi Dong Nai Club to new heights.
