Lam Dong proactively responds to storm Ragasa

Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has just issued a document requesting departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of communes, wards, and Phu Quy special zone to proactively deploy measures to respond to storm Ragasa in the East Sea.

Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requested departments, branches, sectors and localities to closely monitor warning bulletins, forecasts and developments of the storm. At the same time, notify captains and owners of vehicles and vessels operating at sea to proactively prevent and have appropriate production plans, ensuring safety of people and property; maintain communication to promptly handle bad situations that may occur.

In addition, deploy shock forces to inspect and review coastal residential areas, streams, low-lying areas at risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides to proactively deploy response measures and minimize damage, especially in areas that have experienced heavy rain in recent days.

Localities are ready with forces and means to carry out rescue work when situations arise; and implement plans to prevent heavy rain, floods, and landslides.

In addition, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Civil Defense Command to closely monitor the situation and weather developments; be on duty 24/7, promptly inform and warn the people; review areas at risk of landslides, flash floods, and inundation; organize the evacuation of people to safe places when necessary; prepare forces, means, and materials according to the "4 on-site" motto to respond to and overcome incidents.

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to be on duty, monitor weather and natural disaster developments; preside over monitoring and urging departments, branches, sectors and localities to proactively deploy disaster prevention and response work according to assigned tasks.

The sector promptly reports and proposes to the Provincial People's Committee issues beyond its authority; synthesizes damage caused by natural disasters in the area, advises and proposes response, remediation and support plans according to regulations.

Previously, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, super typhoon Ragasa this morning (September 22) could strengthen to level 17. It is forecasted to enter the East Sea by evening and become the 9th typhoon in this sea area this year.

Early this morning, the super typhoon was about 230km from Luzon Island, Philippines, with the strongest wind speed of 221km/h, level 16-17, gusting above level 17, and was moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of 20km/h. By early morning on September 23, the super typhoon in the North East Sea had the strongest wind speed of level 17, gusting above level 17, maintaining its direction and speed and likely to strengthen further.

At 1am on September 24, storm Ragasa was about 490km east of Leizhou Peninsula (China), with the strongest wind at level 16-17, gusting above level 17.
