Timely intervention in the case of a boy with a metal coin stuck in his esophagus

On September 21, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Duc Minh General Hospital, Ha Giang 2 Ward, Tuyen Quang Province received a case of a 2-year-old boy, Phan Quoc V, Dao ethnic group, in Du Gia Commune, Tuyen Quang Province, who showed signs of choking in the throat, vomiting many times, and not being able to eat.

According to the family, baby Phan Quoc V was suspected of swallowing a metal coin given to him by a foreign tourist . Immediately after, doctors and nurses examined and took X-rays and discovered a metal coin stuck in the baby's esophagus. Realizing that the coin stuck could be dangerous for the baby, the doctors and nurses consulted and immediately performed an intervention to remove the coin. The timely intervention safely removed the coin from the baby's esophagus without damaging the soft tissue during the intervention. Thereby, helping baby Phan Quoc V recover quickly and now can play normally.

Doctors and the patient's family were happy to intervene promptly in the case of baby Phan Quoc V who had a metal coin stuck in his esophagus.

According to doctors of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Duc Minh General Hospital, parents should avoid leaving their children alone to play with objects that are easy to suck or swallow, such as metal coins, batteries, buttons, small beads, and small toys. When suspecting that a child has swallowed a foreign object, with symptoms such as difficulty breathing, wheezing, choking, unusual vomiting, excessive drooling, fussiness, or cyanosis, parents should take their child to a medical facility immediately.
