The Ministry of Health assessed that globally, the number of cases and deaths due to Covid-19 is on a downward trend.
The rapid increase in Covid-19 cases in Thailand coincides with the time and incubation period after the traditional New Year holiday, most likely due to increased mass gatherings and the rise of the XBB.1.16 sub-variant.
The pathogenic Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 has emerged since 2023, is highly transmissible but has not been shown to cause more severe symptoms, and the World Health Organization (WHO) currently has no new warnings for Covid-19 globally.
The Ministry of Health will continue to coordinate with WHO to closely monitor the Covid-19 epidemic situation in the world and propose appropriate and effective disease prevention and control measures.
No warning of dangerous changes
According to the Ministry of Health, Covid-19 is a disease circulating in Vietnam. With the high number of people traveling and interacting during the recent April 30 and May 1 holidays, it is possible that there will be an increase in cases in our country in the coming time, but there may not be an increase in severe cases due to the Covid-19 virus variant.
To proactively respond to new developments that require warning, the Ministry of Health has proactively strengthened supervision and closely monitored the Covid-19 situation, strengthened the implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures at medical facilities and in the community; is ready to admit, provide emergency care, and effectively treat cases of the disease, especially high-risk groups (pregnant women, people with underlying diseases, the elderly, etc.), and prevent deaths.
The Ministry of Health continues to recommend that people wear masks in public places, on public transport, and at medical facilities.
Avoid crowded places (if not necessary). Wash your hands regularly with clean water, soap or antiseptic solution; increase physical activity, training, and proper nutrition.
If you have symptoms of fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, you must immediately go to the nearest medical facility for examination, monitoring, and timely treatment...
People coming to and returning from countries with high numbers of Covid-19 cases need to proactively monitor their health status to prevent and combat Covid-19 for themselves, their families and close contacts.
