Tuổi Trẻ Online interviewed Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, about this issue.

* Colonel Nguyen Van Binh, before and during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, April 30th, and May 1st holidays, what plans does PC08 have to ensure traffic safety and order so that people can travel conveniently and reduce traffic congestion?

- Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh: Implementing the Ho Chi Minh City Police's plan to ensure security and order, as well as traffic safety during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, April 30th, and May 1st holidays, PC08 has instructed its subordinate units to maintain 100% personnel on duty at gateways, bus stations, ports, airports, and major arterial roads. This allows for proactive traffic management, preventing congestion and ensuring smoother travel for the public.

In addition, PC08 closely coordinates with commune-level police, youth volunteer forces, and relevant units to ensure traffic order while supporting people in enjoying themselves and traveling safely.

PC08 also coordinated with Team 6 and Team 7 of Department 6 of the Traffic Police Department, port units, and city departments and agencies to ensure traffic flow in areas with a high risk of congestion such as Cat Lai Port, the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, and the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway. Simultaneously, they coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction and other units to establish communication groups to quickly update traffic conditions and handle issues promptly, preventing congestion.

In addition, authorities are stepping up inspections and taking action against violations such as drunk driving, speeding, lane violations, driving against the flow of traffic, and modifying motorcycles to prevent accidents and illegal racing.

* Colonel, could you please provide more information about the flexible traffic management options?

- Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh: One of the outstanding solutions is the use of drones and surveillance camera systems to monitor traffic conditions in real time. This allows authorities to proactively regulate traffic from an early stage, reroute traffic from a distance, and "direct" the flow of vehicles, preventing congestion at a single point.

At the An Phu intersection, one of the points with very high traffic volume during holidays, PC08 proactively coordinated with the Highway Traffic Police Team No. 6 to monitor traffic flow on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway, proactively diverting traffic from the An Phu intersection early and from a distance, guiding vehicles from the An Phu intersection to Vo Nguyen Giap road to go to Dong Nai bridge and National Highway 1, in order to limit the number of vehicles entering the expressway, reduce pressure on the expressway, and avoid localized congestion.

Simultaneously, alternative routes have been provided so that people can proactively choose and avoid traveling to areas with heavy traffic.

How would you assess the results of the plan outlined for this holiday season?

- Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh: Thanks to thorough preparation and the synchronized implementation of solutions, traffic conditions in Ho Chi Minh City remained basically stable throughout the holiday period. Major roads, arteries, and city gateways did not experience serious congestion, allowing people to travel back to their hometowns and go on vacations conveniently.

* With people expected to return to Ho Chi Minh City this afternoon, the last day of the holiday, how will PC08 ensure traffic flow?

- Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh: At exactly 10:00 AM today, PC08 had planned to deploy 100% of its personnel to coordinate with PC08 units in neighboring provinces and cities such as Tay Ninh and Dong Nai, as well as units under C08, to regulate traffic and prevent traffic congestion at gateways, Cat Lai ferry terminal, and Tan Son Nhat airport.

On the last day of the holiday, when the number of people returning to the city increases, PC08 advises people to monitor traffic conditions through applications such as "TTGT TPHCM" and Google Maps to choose appropriate times and routes. They should also follow the instructions of law enforcement to avoid congested intersections and peak traffic times. Furthermore, choosing routes as recommended by authorities will help avoid traffic jams and disruptions to people's travel.

The goal of Ho Chi Minh City's traffic police is to always ensure that traffic congestion does not occur and to prevent accidents during holiday periods.

"People should be smart road users to 'travel safely and return happily'," Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Binh emphasized.

Thank you, sir!
