Soc Trang voters agree to rearrange administrative units at provincial and commune levels
The People's Committee of Soc Trang province said that the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Home Affairs; Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; People's Committees at district and commune levels to focus on implementing information and propaganda work in various forms on the policies of the Party and State, the tasks of implementing the arrangement of administrative units at commune and provincial levels to raise awareness and responsibility for all levels, sectors, cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers and people to create consensus in organizing the implementation. At the same time, post documents to collect voters' opinions on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units of Can Tho city, the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Soc Trang province on the Electronic Information Portal of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, the People's Committees at district and commune levels according to regulations; post documents to collect voters' opinions at locations to collect voters' opinions, headquarters of People's Committees at commune levels, headquarters of People's Committees at district levels during the time of collecting voters' opinions.
The review and compilation of voter lists will be carried out by the People's Committees at the commune level from April 3, 2025 and the voter lists will be posted on April 7, 2025; the time for collecting voters' opinions will start from April 15, 2025 and be completed on April 16, 2025.
As a result, regarding the arrangement of provincial administrative units, 326,405/337,186 voters agreed, reaching a rate of 96.80%. The number of voters who disagreed was 4,312 people, accounting for a rate of 1.28%.
Regarding the arrangement of commune-level administrative units, 305,373/337,186 voters agreed; 7,997 voters disagreed.
* It is known that on April 20, 2025, the People's Council of Soc Trang province passed a resolution on rearranging administrative units at the provincial and commune levels.
Soc Trang province has a natural area of 3,298.20 km 2 . The total number of district-level administrative units is 11; including 1 city (Soc Trang city), 2 towns (Vinh Chau and Nga Nam), 8 districts (Chau Thanh, Cu Lao Dung, Ke Sach, Long Phu, My Tu, My Xuyen, Thanh Tri, Tran De) and 108 communes, wards and towns. The number of commune-level administrative units that meet the standards of not having to be rearranged includes 3 communes and 1 commune that does not have to be rearranged due to special factors. Soc Trang province will rearrange 108 communes, wards and towns to establish 43 communes and wards (including 8 wards and 35 communes).
Commune-level administrative units are specifically arranged as follows:
1. Merge Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3, Ward 4 (Soc Trang city) into a new ward called Phu Loi ward. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Soc Trang city.
2. Merge Ward 5, Ward 6, Ward 7, Ward 8 (Soc Trang city) into a new ward called Soc Trang ward. The administrative center is located at the current Ward 6 People's Committee.
3. Merge Ward 10 (belonging to Soc Trang city), My Xuyen town and Dai Tam commune (belonging to My Xuyen district) into a new ward called My Xuyen ward. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of My Xuyen town, My Xuyen district.
4. Merge Hoa Tu 1 commune and Hoa Tu 2 commune (belonging to My Xuyen district) to establish a new administrative unit called Hoa Tu commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of My Xuyen district.
5. Merge Thanh Quoi commune and Gia Hoa 2 commune (My Xuyen district) into a new commune called Gia Hoa commune, with the administrative center located at the current People's Committee of Gia Hoa 2 commune, My Xuyen district.
6. Merge Thanh Phu commune and Gia Hoa 1 commune (belonging to My Xuyen district) into a new commune called Nhu Gia commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Thanh Phu commune, My Xuyen district.
7. Merge Tham Don commune, Ngoc To commune, Ngoc Dong commune (belonging to My Xuyen district) into a new commune called Ngoc To commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Ngoc To commune, My Xuyen district.
8. Merge Hau Thanh commune, Truong Khanh commune, Phu Huu commune (belonging to Long Phu district) into a new commune called Truong Khanh commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Truong Khanh commune, Long Phu district.
9. Merge Dai Ngai town and Long Duc commune (belonging to Long Phu district) into a new commune called Dai Ngai commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Dai Ngai town, Long Phu district.
10. Merge Tan Hung commune, Chau Khanh commune, Tan Thanh commune (belonging to Long Phu district) into a new commune called Tan Thanh commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Tan Thanh commune, Long Phu district.
11. Merge Long Phu town and Long Phu commune (belonging to Long Phu district) into a new commune called Long Phu commune. The administrative center is located at the current Long Phu district People's Committee.
12. Merge An My commune, Nhon My commune (belonging to Ke Sach district), Song Phung commune (belonging to Long Phu district) into a new commune called Nhon My commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Nhon My commune, Ke Sach district.
13. Maintain the status quo of Phong Nam commune (Ke Sach district).
14. Merge Xuan Hoa commune, Trinh Phu commune, An Lac Thon town (Ke Sach district) into a new commune called An Lac Thon commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of An Lac Thon town, Ke Sach district.
15. Merge Ke Sach town, Ke An commune, Ke Thanh commune (Ke Sach district) into a new commune called Ke Sach commune. The administrative center is located at the current Ke Sach district People's Committee.
16. Merge Thoi An Hoi commune and An Lac Tay commune (Ke Sach district) into a new commune called Thoi An Hoi commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of An Lac Tay commune, Ke Sach district.
17. Merge Dai Hai commune and Ba Trinh commune (Ke Sach district) into a new commune called Dai Hai commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Dai Hai commune, Ke Sach district.
18. Merge Chau Thanh town and Phu Tam commune (Chau Thanh district) into a new commune called Phu Tam commune. The administrative center is located at the current Chau Thanh district People's Committee.
19. Merge An Ninh commune and An Hiep commune (Chau Thanh district) into a new commune called An Ninh commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of An Hiep commune, Chau Thanh district.
20. Merge Phu Tan commune and Thuan Hoa commune (Chau Thanh district) into a new commune called Thuan Hoa commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Phu Tan commune, Chau Thanh district.
21. Merge Ho Dac Kien commune and Thien My commune (Chau Thanh district) into a new commune called Ho Dac Kien commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Ho Dac Kien commune, Chau Thanh district.
22. Merge Huynh Huu Nghia town, My Tu commune, My Thuan commune (My Tu district) into a new commune called My Tu commune. The administrative center is located at the current My Tu district People's Committee.
23. Merge Hung Phu commune and Long Hung commune (My Tu district) into a new commune called Long Hung commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Long Hung commune, My Tu district.
24. Maintain the status quo of My Phuoc commune (My Tu district).
25. Merge Thuan Hung commune, Phu My commune, My Huong commune (My Tu district) into a new commune called My Huong commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of My Huong commune, My Tu district.
26. Merge Vinh Phuoc ward and Vinh Tan commune (Vinh Chau town) into a new commune called Vinh Phuoc ward. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Vinh Phuoc ward, Vinh Chau town.
27. Maintain the status quo of Vinh Hai commune (Vinh Chau town).
28. Maintain the status quo of Lai Hoa commune (Vinh Chau town).
29. Merge Ward 1, Ward 2, Lac Hoa commune (Vinh Chau town) into a new ward called Vinh Chau ward. The administrative center is located at the current Vinh Chau town People's Committee.
30. Merge Khanh Hoa ward, Vinh Hiep commune, Hoa Dong commune (Vinh Chau town) into a new commune called Khanh Hoa ward. The administrative center is located at the current Khanh Hoa ward People's Committee.
31. Merge Ward 1, Ward 2, Vinh Quoi Commune (Nga Nam Town) into a new commune called Nga Nam Ward. The administrative center is located at the current Nga Nam Town People's Committee.
32. Merge Ward 3, My Binh Commune, My Quoi Commune (Nga Nam Town) into a new commune called My Quoi Ward. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of My Quoi Commune.
33. Merge Long Binh commune, Tan Long commune (Nga Nam town) and Thanh Tan commune (Thanh Tri district) into a new commune called Tan Long commune. The administrative center is located at the current Tan Long commune People's Committee.
34. Merge Phu Loc town, Thanh Tri commune, Hung Loi town (Thanh Tri district) into a new commune called Phu Loc commune. The administrative center is located at the current Thanh Tri District Party Committee.
35. Merge Vinh Loi commune, Vinh Thanh commune, Chau Hung commune (Thanh Tri district) into a new commune called Vinh Loi commune. The administrative center is located at the current Vinh Loi commune People's Committee.
36. Merge Lam Tan commune, Lam Kiet commune, Tuan Tuc commune (Thanh Tri district) into a new commune called Lam Tan commune. The administrative center is located at the current Lam Tan commune People's Committee.
37. Merge Thanh Thoi An commune and Thanh Thoi Thuan commune (Tran De district) into a new commune called Thanh Thoi An commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Thanh Thoi An commune.
38. Merge Vien An commune and Tai Van commune (Tran De district) into a new commune called Tai Van commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Tai Van commune.
39. Merge Lieu Tu commune and Vien Binh commune (Tran De district) into a new commune called Lieu Tu commune. The administrative center is located at the current Lieu Tu commune People's Committee.
40. Merge Lich Hoi Thuong commune and Lich Hoi Thuong town (Tran De district) into a new commune called Lich Hoi Thuong commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Lich Hoi Thuong town.
41. Merge Tran De town, Dai An 2 commune, Trung Binh commune (Tran De district) into a new commune called Tran De commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of Tran De district.
42. Merge Cu Lao Dung town, An Thanh 1 commune, An Thanh Tay commune and An Thanh Dong commune (Cu Lao Dung district) into a new commune called An Thanh commune. The administrative center is located at the current Cu Lao Dung district People's Committee.
43. Merge An Thanh 2 commune, Dai An 1 commune, An Thanh 3 commune and An Thanh Nam commune (Cu Lao Dung district) into a new commune called Cu Lao Dung commune. The administrative center is located at the current People's Committee of An Thanh 3 commune.
The People's Council delegates of Soc Trang province also agreed on the plan to reorganize provincial-level units, which is to establish Can Tho city under the central government on the basis of merging the administrative units of Soc Trang province, Hau Giang province and Can Tho city. The administrative and political center of the newly established provincial-level administrative unit will be located in Ninh Kieu district (Can Tho city).
