Manchester United are looking to sell Casemiro. |
The 33-year-old midfielder, who earns around £300,000 a week, has become a major obstacle for the club to carry out a new deal. According to sources close to the matter, four agencies have been tasked with finding partners for Casemiro, who is entering the final year of his contract. United need at least £15m to avoid making a loss under the Premier League's profit-and-financial sustainability regulations, but few clubs are willing to spend that amount on a star who is past his prime.
Casemiro had exploded in the Europa League knockout stages, but the club put him up for sale in the winter transfer window after a long period of not playing. Coach Ruben Amorim still has five options in midfield: Bruno Fernandes (played more centrally), Manuel Ugarte (£50m), Kobbie Mainoo (tested as a conductor), young talent Toby Collyer (started only 3 matches) and Casemiro.
Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen has left the club, while the recruitment budget has been prioritised for the attack with two big signings: Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, worth a combined £133.5m. United still need another centre-forward, while the goalkeeper position has also become vulnerable following the injury to Andre Onana.
Casemiro joined Man United from Real Madrid in 2022 for £60m (rising to £70m in add-ons). Despite a brilliant first season, his form has dropped significantly this term. Amorim admitted he is still “trying to get the best out of Casemiro”, while the Brazilian midfielder recently returned to the national team after an 18-month absence.
