On September 17, the Food Safety Department sent a document to the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Health requesting an investigation and handling of the suspected food poisoning case in the area.
Specifically, the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Health is requested to temporarily suspend the operation of food suppliers suspected of causing food poisoning. Organize investigations and trace the origin of food to clearly identify the source of raw materials and food for processing facilities suspected of causing poisoning; take samples of specimens and food for testing to find the cause; detect and strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicize the results to promptly warn the community.
At the same time, strengthen propaganda and guidance for collective kitchens and food service establishments to ensure hygiene and food safety conditions; strictly implement the management of food ingredients' origin, three-step food inspection, food sample storage and hygiene in processing stages.
As CAND Online reported, at 8:00 a.m. on September 16, class 7.1 of Thong Nhat Secondary School, Thong Nhat Ward, Pleiku City (Gia Lai Province) held a party to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival 2024 with a total of 45 students participating.
Of these, 34/45 students drank milk tea purchased by the class's Parents' Association from the Co Ba Saigon milk tea establishment (address: No. 14 Phung Hung, Hoi Thuong Ward, Pleiku City). At around 9:00 a.m. the same day, 21/34 students who drank the milk tea showed symptoms of stomachache and vomiting.
After that, 2 students were hospitalized at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai, the remaining students with mild symptoms were taken home by their parents for monitoring.
Regarding the health status of the students, a leader of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai said that as of this morning, both students being treated at the hospital are in stable health and are being monitored by doctors.
