Launching of "Cooperative Group for Growing Jellyfish"
Switch to "poverty alleviation" tree
The Minh Duc commune's jelly grass growing cooperative has been operating since 2021 under the initiative of the commune's Women's Union, aiming to solve the problem of transforming the local agricultural economy . A representative of the commune's Women's Union said that the cooperative was established in the context that many households in the commune needed to replace old pepper areas with new, more effective crops. After a thorough survey of many types of crops, jelly grass was chosen because it has many advantages such as: easy to grow, low initial investment capital, good adaptation to the local climate and relatively stable market output.
Initially, the Cooperative had only 5 members, but has now expanded to 9 official members and created stable jobs for 20 workers, of which women account for 90% (18 people). The operating model is based on the principle of voluntary association, working together - enjoying together, aiming at the goal of clean agriculture and sustainable development.
After more than three years of implementation, the Cooperative Group for growing jelly grass has recorded encouraging economic results, with the total cultivated area expanding to more than 20,000 m². Growing jelly grass, members have taken advantage of available pepper and bamboo poles, along with a flexible care process, jelly grass has quickly become the main source of income, helping many female members escape poverty sustainably. Ms. Dang Thi Huong, Head of the Cooperative Group, said that with 4,000 m² of jelly grass, she earns about 100 million VND/crop after deducting expenses. Especially, in the dry season, market demand increases sharply, ensuring the average income of female workers reaches from 7 to 8 million VND/month.
With the ability to harvest 3 crops per year and continuously exploit for 6-7 years, the jelly grass plant is opening up a stable and long-term source of income for members.

Mastering the green product chain
The value of the product is enhanced along with the expansion of the consumption market. In this process, the Minh Duc Women's Union plays the role of "midwife" in building the chain of links. The Union has proactively connected the Cooperative Group with cooperatives and businesses both inside and outside the locality. At the same time, the Union supports effective product promotion through digital media channels such as Zalo and Facebook, gradually successfully building the "Minh Duc Jelly Jelly" brand. In particular, linking with businesses to ensure consumption helps the Cooperative Group feel secure in production, minimize market risks, and firmly follow the model of "Women owning the green product chain" from planting to consumption. All 100% of the group's members are equipped with in-depth knowledge of planting techniques, safe care and processing.
The Minh Duc Commune Jelly Planting Cooperative Model is a vivid demonstration, affirming the dynamism and creativity of women in collective economic development. This success not only helps reduce poverty and improve women's status, but is also the result of the comprehensive support and accompaniment from the Commune Women's Union from capital, technology to communication, which has helped many women escape economic dependence and become active start-up factors.
In recognition of this success, the Cooperative Group has been recognized by the Provincial Women's Union as a typical economic model. In the coming time, the Commune Women's Union will continue to support the Cooperative Group in registering product trademarks, putting products on e-commerce platforms, and at the same time replicating the model towards developing a sustainable value chain. This is the message of "Women starting a business - Women doing green economy - Women joining hands to build a rich and beautiful homeland", aiming to achieve the goal of sustainable development in the new period.
