On the evening of May 21, the above information was confirmed to VietNamNet by Deputy Director of the Vietnam Register, Nguyen To An, regarding the incident in which the 50-05V Registration Center, Hong Ha branch, concluded on May 17 that the Mercedes-Benz C250 Exclusive failed the inspection because the grille was not in accordance with the manufacturer's design.
According to Mr. Nguyen To An, as soon as receiving information about the incident, the Department of Registration requested the registration unit 50-05V Hong Ha branch and inspector Tran Vu Phuong to report and explain.
Through verification, the Department of Registration determined that inspector Tran Vu Phuong and the inspection unit 50-05V Hong Ha branch did not follow the procedures prescribed in Circular No. 02/2023/TT-BGTVT, had shortcomings in their work, and did not fully look up technical information from the Department of Registration, leading to incorrect assessment results.
“When looking up on the vehicle inspection system, there was only one version that was hastily concluded as failing while there are two versions of this vehicle. If it is the responsibility of the vehicle inspection center, it should immediately contact the Department of Motor Vehicle Inspection to ask about the second version of this vehicle,” commented Mr. Nguyen To An.
According to the head of the Registration Department, the grille is only for decoration and does not affect the technical safety or environmental quality of the vehicle. The vehicle itself is inspected in its original state, without any modifications; the vehicle passed the inspection 4 times before.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Registration said that he had requested the registration unit 50-05V Hong Ha branch to proactively contact the vehicle owner to apologize, admit the shortcomings and take responsibility for issuing certificates and inspection stamps for the vehicle.
At the same time, the inspection unit is required to seriously review and learn from experience to avoid similar mistakes.
The Department of Vehicle Inspection recognizes that this is a lesson for vehicle inspectors and inspection units nationwide to avoid errors that affect inspection work.
The Department of Vehicle Registration will continue to review and improve guidelines for vehicle registration units nationwide so that inspection work is carried out consistently, accurately and correctly to regain the prestige and trust of the people and society.
Previously, on May 17, the Mercedes-Benz C250 Exclusive with license plate 66A-024.68 went to the inspection unit 50-05V Hong Ha branch at 1A Hong Ha, Ward 2, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City for inspection.
The above vehicle was assessed as failing the vehicle shape category in phase 1.
The inspector was assigned to conduct an inspection and determined that the front grille of car with license plate 66A-024.68 did not match the shape of the Mercedes-Benz C250 Exclusive.
This incident was reported by the car owner on social networking sites, causing a stir in public opinion.
