This afternoon (October 3), a working delegation from the Department of Sports and Physical Training, Deputy Head of the High Performance Sports Department II Nguyen Quoc Hung, worked with the National Sports Training Center and the national youth table tennis team on information related to the athletes' meals.
On October 2, social media circulated images of what was said to be the meals of the national youth table tennis team. According to regulations, athletes are entitled to a meal allowance of VND320,000/person/day. The meal, which is said to cost VND800,000 (for 8 young athletes), only includes 5 dishes of food, while the VND100,000 breakfast only includes a handful of sticky rice and a bottle of water.
The Department of Sports and Physical Training received information reflecting on the lack of meals even though athletes are entitled to a meal allowance of 320,000 VND/day.
Immediately after receiving the feedback from the press, the Department of Sports and Physical Training directed the verification and clarification of related issues. Based on the verified information, the Department of Sports and Physical Training will seriously rectify and overcome existing problems in the management and training of the teams in general and the national youth table tennis team in particular. If any violations are detected, the Department of Sports and Physical Training will strictly handle the related units and individuals in accordance with regulations.
Responding to VTC News after the meeting, the leader of the table tennis department said that the management and responsible units are continuing to verify and clarify. The Vietnam Table Tennis Federation received the initial report from the members of the youth team. Head coach Bui Xuan Ha and the athlete representative said that the team's food rations are still fully guaranteed according to regulations. The responsible agencies are still working to provide a clear answer.
Following the direction of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the National Youth Table Tennis Team was transferred to train and accommodate at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi . Previously, the team lived and practiced at the Hanoi High-Level Athlete Training Center.
