Having been attached to Trinh Cong Son's music in the early days of his career, now, after 15 years since the 5th Hoi Quan Hoi Ngo Voice Contest - 2008, Lan Nha has just released for himself the Trinh - Nhien music album. This is his second studio album, after his first product - Nha.
After physical discs, Nhien will continue to reach the public in cassette and vinyl formats.
Nhien has songs that are very familiar such as Bien nho, Cuoi cuoi cho mot tinh yeu, Con tuoi nao cho em, Phoi pha ..., but there are also songs that are less popular, such as Vang phai truong ngo ... The album is also arranged with many intentions, when mixed with songs with many moods such as Phoi pha, Con tuoi nao cho em, Do you still remember or do you have forgotten ... are happy songs with fast rhythms such as Cuoi cuoi cho mot tinh yeu, Tinh sau ... These are like the two extremes of each person's life, from which to convey the belief "through extreme hardship comes great prosperity".
According to Lan Nha, these are the songs he likes the most in the musical legacy of the late musician Trinh Cong Son. When singing, he doesn't care much about whether the song has been recorded or performed by many artists, because he believes that each person will have a different way of understanding and conveying emotions for the same song. And when making this album, he wants to share his own personal experiences with music lovers.
Lan Nha considers Dung dAlAt as an older brother, so the two can freely and frankly discuss to get the best recording.
The arrangement of this album was handled by guitarist Dung dAlAt, leaning towards simplicity and simplicity. Dung dAlAt's arrangement harmonizes with Lan Nha's performance, the guitar can also be considered a second voice, playing a duet with the singer's soulful voice. "Dung dAlAt is a talented musician, an artist; and he is also a close, sincere friend and brother, who often gives me useful advice. He is an extremely charming, humorous person but also very meticulous in his work", Lan Nha shared more about this combination.
The combination and song selection of this project, it can be said, is somewhat similar to the producer couple Thanh Phuong and Hien Thuc in the two projects Portrait 17 and Angel. But if Hien Thuc chose to break the mold when combining with traditional instruments, Lan Nha expressed her true personality, aiming for originality and choosing simplicity as the best option to sing Trinh's music.
The album Nhien was recorded live by Lan Nha with guitar by artist Dung dAlAt, flute by artist Hoang Yen and percussion by musician Thanh Tam.
Although there are songs that Nha sings very carefully, overall, when listening to Nhien , you will feel that Lan Nha's voice is softer and more flexible than her first album. Among them, Vang Phai Truoc Go is a song that is not easy to perform, as it is one of Trinh Cong Son's most surreal songs. In the scattered flute sounds, the guitar sound leading throughout the whole song, Lan Nha chooses a simple, narrative way of expressing, and also more or less expressing the fleetingness and vagueness of this life. Nha brings the feeling of singing from the heart, although the lyrics are somewhat philosophical and full of metaphors.
The mixing and mastering were also post-processed at Sterling Sound (USA), where sound engineer Chris Gehringer has worked with many famous European and American Grammy-winning artists. This shows the investment to bring the best experience to the audience.
Although for Lan Nha, Nhien was named after his daughter, reminding him to love music innocently. But in some ways, this is also the feeling of the listener when enjoying this album: a sense of peace. If the first album was named Nha as an introduction to his voice, then this second album is for everyone, and for everyone.
