(Baonghean.vn) - Tan Ky is a land where countless sons and daughters of Vietnam have gathered. After 60 years of unity and solidarity in building their homeland, every son and daughter of Tan Ky is now immensely proud of the changes in various fields; and the material and spiritual lives of the people are constantly improving.

A good place attracts good people.

The Tan Ky area has long been affectionately known as "the homeland of countless homelands." This name originates from the fact that the district's population comes from many different regions across Vietnam during the wartime evacuation period.

According to surveys, Tan Ky district is home to people from more than 40 provinces and cities across the country, creating a diverse culture from many regions. Remarkably, all these residents, despite differences in accents and customs, consider Tan Ky their second home, a place that has nurtured them and given them a new life.

Tan An, considered a miniature Tan Ky, is home to people from 38 provinces and cities who have returned to settle and start businesses. Stepping into Thanh Binh hamlet, a merged area of three hamlets – Nam Dan, Dien Chau, and Quynh Luu – these days, flags and flowers adorn the sky, the new rural roads are clean and well-maintained, and many spacious houses have sprung up amidst the green hills.

Mr. Bui Van Long, head of Thanh Binh hamlet, proudly stated: "The hamlet was formed by merging three hamlets with a total of over 250 households. Stemming from the New Rural Development movement, more than 4km of internal hamlet roads have been completed with land donated and labor contributed by the residents, transforming them into wide concrete roads. The emulation movement for successful business practices has been continuously promoted by the people. From a initially disadvantaged hamlet, now two-thirds of households have stable economic conditions , and only seven households remain poor. In particular, all movements contributing to the development of our homeland have been enthusiastically supported by the residents."

Mr. Bui Dinh Nam, a native of Quang Nam province living in Tan An commune, recalled: "My family is from Tam Ky, Quang Nam. I followed my father to settle in Tan An commune in 1982 and have been there ever since. I always consider Tan Ky my second home. This place has given me life, family, and work... Here, the local government has created all the conditions for living and developing the economy; the fields of education and health care are given attention by the local authorities, creating favorable conditions for people to receive medical treatment and for children to attend school. Even now, we are very proud to have contributed our efforts to the development of our homeland, Tan Ky."

Mr. Cao Tien Thin – Chairman of the Tan An Commune People's Committee – enthusiastically stated: "In the last century, from the movement to build agricultural farms in Tan Ky, young people from the lowland districts of Nghe An came here to build a new economy… Since then, Tan An has been a place of settlement and residence for people from many different rural areas. Therefore, for generations, the names of hamlets in the commune have been associated with the original hometowns of the people. Not only that, Tan An is also a place where people from very distant provinces such as Long An , Quang Nam, and Ha Giang… have gathered to settle down. Although they are not from the same hometown, all residents here are united and work together to build Tan An into an increasingly prosperous commune. The people of Tan An are proud to be one of the first localities in Tan Ky district to achieve the New Rural Area status."

Currently, the population of Tan Ky mainly consists of three ethnic groups: Kinh, Thai, and Tho, with the Kinh ethnic group accounting for 82%. Witnessing the increasing modernization of his hometown, Tan Ky, Mr. Lo Van Huynh, a Thai ethnic minority member in Nghia Dung commune, shared: “Our ancestors were from Thanh Hoa, and then settled in Tan Ky in the last century. I was born in Tan Ky and grew up with the local people, so we always consider each other as family. I also often teach my children and grandchildren to contribute their efforts to building a more modernized Tan Ky…” Mr. Huynh's lessons are cherished by younger generations, and he is also a respected figure among the ethnic minorities in the area.

Taking care of people's lives

During those historic days of April, walking along the roads, residential areas, and alleyways in Tan Ky district, one could see flags and flowers everywhere. The roads were renovated and upgraded, sparkling when the lights came on, and the villages seemed to have donned a new outfit.

For many years, the movement to contribute to and build the homeland has been wholeheartedly supported by generations of people in Tan Ky. In particular, the movement to donate land for road construction has received widespread consensus from the people. Mr. Ha Huy Thao, a Thai ethnic minority from Nghia Dung commune, shared: "My family's economic situation is still difficult, however, when there was a plan to build village roads, my family was ready to donate land so that the concrete roads could be constructed soon, because we are the beneficiaries, not anyone else."

The movement to donate land for road construction has been widely promoted in Tan Ky district. For example, in Tan Phu commune, 50 households voluntarily donated over 260 square meters of land and demolished 862 meters of sturdy fences to make way for a road. In Tan Ky town, 20 households in Block 3 agreed to donate over 300 square meters of land for an inner-city road... Hundreds of households in inland communes such as Huong Son, Phu Son, Tan Huong, Tan An, Tien Ky, Dong Van… have donated land and assets on the land to create wide, paved roads.

One of the highlights of Tan Ky is the continuous improvement in the fields of education and healthcare. It is easily noticeable that, from the inner to the outer communes, the school system at all levels and the commune health stations have been invested in and upgraded, with increasingly modern teaching and medical equipment.

Mr. Hoang Dinh Son, Head of the Education and Training Department of Tan Ky District, proudly stated: "In recent years, the district's education sector has consistently been a bright spot in the province's education system, notably achieving the title of 'Outstanding Collective Labor' at the provincial level for seven consecutive years. Currently, 57 out of 66 schools in the district meet national standards. Vocational training and job placement are always prioritized by the district's Party Committee and government."

The appearance of rural areas is improving day by day, with numerous houses being built for the people... This is evidence to affirm that the material living standards of the people have been raised, and the number of well-off households is increasing. According to data from the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2022, the poverty rate in the entire district decreased to 7.69%; the near-poverty rate decreased to 9.08%. To make poverty eradication effective, over the years, Tan Ky district has implemented solutions, including promoting labor export; attracting investment, and creating local jobs for workers.

Alongside improvements in material living standards, the spiritual lives of the people have also been significantly enhanced. It can be said that few rural areas have such a strong sports and physical education movement as Tan Ky. As proof, during the men's volleyball tournament commemorating the 60th anniversary of the district's establishment, people from 22 communes and towns flocked to the district center to watch the teams compete. For several days, tens of thousands of people came to cheer, filling the stadium to capacity. Every year, Tan Ky participates in the Nghe An Newspaper Cup youth and children's football tournament, winning the championship twice in a row.

Sixty years, a historical journey, the achievements of the cadres, Party members, and people of Tan Ky district are among the milestones that further enhance the glorious traditions of Tan Ky homeland. These achievements are a solid foundation for each future generation to cherish, preserve, and develop.
