Britney Spears' 'post-guardianship' life is problematic

The special, titled TMZ Investigation: Britney Spears - The Price of Freedom, gives viewers an inside look into the 41-year-old pop star's marriage to Sam Ashgari.

"Britney Spears has had a year and a half of freedom since her conservatorship ended, but there are major issues going on," TMZ narrator and executive producer Harvey Levin says at the beginning of the trailer.

The Toxic singer claims her guardians “abused” and “bullied” her.

The clips in the 30-second trailer are revealing. TMZ editor Fabian Garcia claims Britney Spears "had a physical relationship with Sam," while Levin claims her marriage is in "serious trouble."

The show also investigates how the singer spends her day-to-day expenses and "reveals concerns among those closest to her that she is a danger to herself and others," according to a press release.

The New York Post has reached out to Britney Spears' representatives for comment.

The trailer notes that there is "hope" for her future through singing and that in terms of performance, she is "probably still in the top five".

The one-hour special TMZ Investigations: Britney Spears - The Price of Freedom will premiere on Monday, May 15, at 9 p.m. ET on Fox, and will be available on Hulu and Fox Entertainment's streaming platform, Tubi.

Britney Spears was first placed under conservatorship by her father, Jamie Spears, in 2008 following the singer's 2007 meltdown.

The Toxic singer claimed that her guardians "abused" and "bullied" her. Spears also alleged that they forced her to use birth control despite her desire to marry and have children with her then-boyfriend, Sam Ashgari.

Britney Spears' father later agreed to relinquish custody of his daughter, filing a petition to terminate it in September 2021.

Spears has since married longtime boyfriend Sam Ashgari in a lavish ceremony in June 2022.

She also signed a $15 million book deal with Simon & Schuster in February 2022.

However, in recent months, Britney Spears has caused some concern among her fans and loved ones.

Late last year, TMZ reported that those around her were concerned that the singer was "going to die" and were planning an intervention.

Sources have claimed that the pop star is "struggling with mental health and substance abuse".

Britney Spears denied the reports, writing on Instagram: "I feel sick when people make up stories including that I almost died."

Many Instagram posts also made fans worried about her.

In March 2023, Britney Spears sold her Calabasas, California home for a loss of $1.7 million.

Britney Spears was recently spotted not wearing her wedding ring during her April vacation to Puerto Rico, sparking rumors that she had split from Ashgari.
