On June 1st, the Management Board of Vista Verde apartment building (Cat Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City) held an awards ceremony for the "Review Great Books - Win Awesome Prizes" contest as part of activities celebrating International Children's Day.

The competition was launched on April 17th, coinciding with the opening ceremony of the apartment building book fair model, a pilot project organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports in collaboration with Cat Lai ward and the apartment complex. Despite taking place during the period when students were preparing for their final exams, the event still attracted over 100 entries in the form of written articles and videos introducing books.

According to writer and reading culture ambassador Phuong Huyen, what surprised the judges was that many young contestants demonstrated abilities in comprehension and expression that exceeded expectations. One of the two first prizes went to Pham Khanh Han, a student in class 2/6 at Luong The Vinh Primary School.

The books chosen by the children to introduce also reflect the diversity in their reading habits. Besides familiar children's books, there are also books on history, life skills, and human values such as "Red Rain," "Memories of Quang Tri ," "Noble Hearts," and "Rich Dad, Poor Dad ."

Writer Phuong Huyen highly appreciated the investment of effort by the contestants. According to her, many entries showed that the children had a deeper perspective and a greater ability to empathize with the characters and stories in the books than adults often realize.

"Reading each of your entries, I realize you are far more insightful than most adults think. The books you chose to review in this competition show that your own 'book shelves' have become richer, and your perspectives more diverse. This is a very encouraging sign," she commented.

The organizers awarded 21 prizes, including 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 6 third prizes, and 10 consolation prizes. Besides the awards ceremony, residents and children also participated in many activities within the framework of the book fair held right at the apartment complex from May 29th to June 1st.

According to the organizers, the competition results show that reading promotion activities have great potential when brought closer to the people. The initial success of the book fair model at Vista Verde is also seen as a positive sign for expanding reading spaces in residential areas, contributing to building a reading culture from families and communities.
