Close leadership and guidance, profound understanding.
In his opening remarks at the conference summarizing 10 years of implementing Directive 05, Major General Nguyen Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, and Chairman of the City's Veterans Association, enthusiastically stated: “Over the past 10 years, the City's Veterans Association has consistently demonstrated exemplary spirit, actively participating in patriotic emulation movements, contributing to Party building and the campaigns of the Central Government and the City, upholding the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, and achieving many outstanding achievements in the work of building the Association. These are very proud results to learn from and follow the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh.”

Immediately after Directive 05 was issued, the Veterans Association members of Ho Chi Minh City considered it a good opportunity and an important direction for learning, striving, and training themselves according to the example of President Ho Chi Minh. With the leadership, guidance, and direction of the Politburo , the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association, and the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, the Standing Committee of the City Veterans Association thoroughly disseminated the meaning and importance of implementing Directive 05 to every level of the association. The aim was to ensure that all members had a correct and profound understanding, as it is the foundation for building a clean and strong Party, preventing ideological, political, moral, and lifestyle degradation, and arousing the aspiration to build and develop the country in the current period.
CCB Nguyen Thanh Son from Tan Son Nhat ward shared: “We recognize that Directive 05 is of paramount importance. It is the guideline for building and rectifying the Party better, pushing back against negativity, creating high ideological unity, and continuing to affirm that Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought are always the guiding principles for all actions of the Party.”
Directive 05 serves as a foundation for veterans in the city to cultivate and strive for revolutionary ethics, creating motivation to maximize patriotism, uphold self-reliance and self-improvement in life, and contribute their intellect and efforts to the development of society. Veteran Dang Ngoc Khanh from Thu Dau Mot ward shared: “The various levels of the association and our members have developed specific plans and programs to study and follow the example of Uncle Ho. Each of us reminds ourselves to live up to the title of veteran.”
Effective implementation in all areas.
Over the years, the activities of the Veterans Association of Bay Hien Ward (comprising Wards 10, 11, and 12 of the former Tan Binh District) have always been known as a model unit in participating in preserving and protecting the Party's ideological foundation at the grassroots level. This is a good model in implementing Directive 05 in conjunction with the implementation of Resolution No. 35-NQ/TW dated October 22, 2018, of the Politburo on "Strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints in the new situation." In addition to political study sessions, the Veterans Association of Bay Hien Ward also invites speakers from the People's Security University and the Army to provide information on the conspiracies and subversive tactics of hostile forces against our country's revolution, and measures to prevent and combat "peaceful evolution"...

Comrade Pham Van Tuyen, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Bay Hien Ward, said: “Through studying and learning, we clearly recognize harmful and toxic information and methods to combat it, and share positive information on the internet. Veterans Association members also exchange and share information with the youth union and women's association to create 'immunity' against subversive tactics.”
For the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Veteran Entrepreneurs, learning from President Ho Chi Minh means overcoming all difficulties and strictly adhering to state laws to achieve effective production and business. The past 10 years have been a huge challenge for the city's veteran entrepreneurs. This includes unpredictable market changes, fierce competition both domestically and regionally, fluctuating raw material prices, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, these veterans on the economic front have demonstrated unwavering resilience, maintaining stable production, developing markets, and improving the lives of their workers. Many businesses have become strong brands and received commendations, notably: Viet Thinh Garment Joint Stock Company, ACT Telecommunications Joint Stock Company, Nam Sung Aluminum Company Limited, Tam Nong Vietnam Company Limited, Hai Phuong Joint Stock Company, Saigon Transport Group Joint Stock Company, An Ha Construction and Trading Services Company Limited, Long Duong Group Joint Stock Company... truly deserving of the tradition of "Exemplary - Cooperation - Development - Compassion".
Labor Hero Nguyen Dinh Truong shared with me: “On the current economic front, we veteran entrepreneurs and businesses always follow Uncle Ho's teaching: 'Nothing is difficult, only the lack of perseverance is to be feared.' With the will and qualities of soldiers, veteran entrepreneurs will actively contribute to the development of the city and the country.”
Upon visiting the Veterans Association of An Long commune, we were impressed by the "Veterans participating in building new rural areas" movement. A highlight here is that veterans have donated 3,880 square meters of land for road construction, facilitating easier travel for residents and contributing to a beautiful and prosperous rural landscape. Notable examples include member Dang Thai Doat, who donated 1,400 square meters of land with over 200 trees; member Pham Van Tien, who donated 1,200 square meters of land with over 150 trees; and member Ho Van Cuong, who donated 560 square meters of land with 120 trees of various types...
In the Veterans' Associations of Vung Tau, Saigon, and Ben Thanh wards, there is a vibrant movement for urban beautification, tourism development, and commerce. The Veterans' Association of An Nhon Tay commune has a model called "Meals of Comradeship," linked to the movement "Showing Gratitude - Remembering the Source of the Water We Drink"...
Learn from and follow Uncle Ho's example throughout your life.
It is impossible to list here all the achievements and exemplary models in "Studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh" by the veterans of Ho Chi Minh City. Their actions further enhance the image and qualities of the soldiers of Uncle Ho, who, regardless of their position or the time period, always served the country, the people, and the development of society.

In a conversation with us, Lieutenant General Hoang Van Nghia, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association, stated: “When Directive 05 is thoroughly understood, implemented synchronously, and given importance to concrete implementation at the grassroots level, it will achieve high effectiveness.” From now until the end of 2026 and beyond, the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association will proactively develop annual plans, clearly defining the content, tasks, roadmap, and responsibilities of all levels of the association and each member to effectively study and follow the example of President Ho Chi Minh. The breakthrough is “Building a politically and ideologically strong City Veterans Association.” Leading officials, heads of associations, and association cadres must always be exemplary and take the lead in complying with the guidelines, policies, and strategies of the Party and State, actively participating in emulation movements and campaigns of the Central Government and the City.
In 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association will organize many activities, including competitions to learn about the history of the Party, storytelling competitions about President Ho Chi Minh and the armed forces, and competitions on handling harmful and toxic information; resolutely and strictly dealing with cadres, Party members, and association members who show signs of ideological and political degeneration, "self-evolution," and "self-transformation." All cadres and members of the Veterans Association will firmly grasp the spirit of "Learning and following President Ho Chi Minh throughout life." This is the motto for action to enable the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Association to excellently fulfill all tasks in the new situation.
