Former T-ara member sentenced to prison

On April 10, the Ansan District Court in Suwon held a trial for Areum's fraud case, sentencing her to 6 months in prison and 2 years of probation.

Areum was indicted without detention in December 2024 for fraud. She borrowed 37 million won (VND 668 million) from fans and acquaintances but did not pay it back.

Areum appeared in court with her boyfriend, who is in custody. Investigations revealed that the boyfriend was the ringleader of the scam.

In December 2024, Areum announced her divorce, revealing plans to remarry her new partner - her boyfriend who was arrested. She also accused her ex-husband of assault. In retaliation, her ex-husband filed a lawsuit against Areum and her mother for violating the Child Welfare Act and kidnapping a minor. The case was transferred to the prosecutor's office after a three-month investigation.

During this time, Areum and her boyfriend were accused of defrauding 37 million won from 10 fans and acquaintances. Areum initially denied the accusations, blaming a hacker, claiming that she was pregnant with her boyfriend's child. She later announced the breakup, saying that she had borrowed the money because her boyfriend had threatened her. However, during the investigation, police revealed that the couple had reconciled and even had two more children.

Areum recently appealed his previous sentence: eight months in prison with two years of probation and a mandatory 40-hour child abuse prevention course from a separate case involving child abuse allegations.

She was indicted in July 2024 on charges of child abuse (by cursing at her ex-husband in front of them). She was also charged with defamation of an individual, slandering him by revealing a conviction involving her boyfriend. Areum's mother was also indicted on child abuse charges, receiving a four-month prison sentence, suspended for one year.
