According to NPR and RT, information related to these interviews later became part of an investigation into Biden's handling of classified documents.

The U.S. Department of Justice plans to release these documents to Congress and the conservative group known as the Heritage Foundation.
Biden's lawyers said the lawsuit was filed in federal court in Washington on May 26, arguing that the disclosure would unjustifiably infringe on the former president's privacy. "Every American, including the current and former Vice President, has a right to privacy in the private conversations within their own homes. When the Department of Justice obtains that private information through a criminal investigation, it has a special responsibility to protect that information from being disclosed."
According to the Daily Intelligencer, the documents include 70 hours of audio recordings and transcripts of conversations between Biden and his pen pal Mark Zwonitzer at his home in 2016 and 2017.
The recordings were collected by U.S. Special Counsel Robert Hur, who was appointed to investigate whether Biden illegally kept classified documents at his home after serving as vice president under former President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017. In May, the Heritage Foundation filed a lawsuit under the Freedom of Information Act seeking access to the records.
In a report published in 2024, Special Counsel Hur concluded that Biden had “willfully withheld and disclosed” classified documents, including those related to military policy in Afghanistan, but declined to recommend criminal prosecution against the former president.
