Mr. Jozef Sikela informed that the monthly report of the Czech Energy Authority said that some companies started importing gas from Russia in October.
"The country does not need to import gas from Moscow and has no problems accumulating gas supplies for the winter," the Czech Trade Minister asserted.
Accordingly, Russian natural gas accounted for 1.2% of the total gas supply to the country from January to October.
Earlier, Mr. Jozef Sikela announced that the Czech Republic would not import gas from Russia in 2023 because the country had diversified its supply sources. The country already buys gas from Norway and receives liquefied natural gas (LNG) by sea through Western European ports.
“Russian gas supplies to the European Union (EU) are the target of sanctions. Some countries cannot do without Russian gas. As for the Czech Republic, we have tried to completely eliminate our dependence on Russian gas,” he said.
