A variety of summer playgrounds help children develop comprehensively.

DNO - Summer is no longer simply a time for rest after a stressful school year. Recently, many parents in Da Nang have been proactively seeking out sports, arts, skills, or technology classes for their children to have experiential learning environments instead of spending most of their time on phones and television.

At many sports centers, talent classes, and skills clubs in Da Nang city, the atmosphere has been vibrant since the beginning of summer. Amidst the cheers on the basketball court, exciting martial arts training sessions, or robotics classes, many children are having a summer different from simply spending time with electronic devices.

Mr. Tran Van Quang's family (Hoa Xuan ward) encourages their two children to participate in various activities according to their interests and personalities. His eldest son currently plays basketball, swims, plays chess, does robotics, and practices Taekwondo. His youngest daughter is studying traditional martial arts with her mother and will soon be taking up drawing and becoming a child MC.

According to Mr. Quang, the family's goal is not to have their children study a lot, but to create opportunities for them to experience, explore themselves, and find what truly suits them.

"The family doesn't force the children to follow trends. They'll get a trial period, and if they truly enjoy it, they'll continue long-term. But once they've made a choice, they must be responsible and strive to see it through to the end," he shared.

For his son, he prioritizes activities that promote physical and intellectual development. Meanwhile, the family steers their daughter towards activities focused on art and communication skills to help her become more confident and assertive.

"I don't put too much emphasis on achievements or my children having to be excellent immediately. What I expect most is for them to gain more experience, become more disciplined, and find joy in learning," Mr. Quang said.

Besides sports, many parents now prioritize enrolling their children in summer arts activities such as dancing, drawing, singing, or becoming junior MCs to help them develop their emotions and expressive abilities.

Ms. Mai Anh Tuyet (Thanh Khe ward) said that this summer she enrolled her daughter in a dance class because she wanted her to have an environment where she could both have fun and develop her talent.

"My daughter loves music and dancing, so the family has created opportunities for her to take classes. I hope she will become more confident, more assertive in communication, and develop better teamwork skills," Ms. Tuyet shared.

According to Ms. Tuyet, after attending the class for a while, her daughter became more active and proactive in her daily life. In the evenings at home, she would play music and practice the movements she had learned on her own.

Along with sports and arts classes, STEM training programs, robotics, and programming have also become popular choices for parents during the summer.

Mr. Tran Duc Luong, Director of YoungTech Lab JSC (Da Nang), said that the demand for robotics classes this summer has increased sharply as many parents want their children to approach technology in a proactive and creative way.

"From summer classes that were once thought to be just for 'babysitting,' many parents now expect their children to develop critical thinking, skills, and adaptability in the digital age," Mr. Luong shared.

According to Mr. Luong, instead of just using phones and computers for entertainment, children learning Robotics get to directly assemble robots, program them, check for errors, and improve their products.

"The trial-and-error process not only helps children develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills, but also fosters teamwork, communication, and proactive learning," he said.

Mr. Luong believes that in the context of rapidly developing AI and technology, the important thing is not whether children use electronic devices early or late, but rather that they are guided to approach technology in a creative and positive way. In addition, parents need to balance technology with physical activity, reading, and social interaction for children's holistic development.

For many children, summer is also an opportunity to try new things that they didn't have many chances to experience during the school year. Tran Van Son, a third-grade student at FM Primary School (Da Nang), excitedly shared that he especially loves the Robotics class because he gets to directly assemble and control the models he creates himself.

Currently, Son is participating in five different summer classes, but he doesn't feel pressured. On the contrary, each class brings him its own unique enjoyment. According to Son, he learned how to program robots, honed his logical thinking through robotics, developed patience from playing chess, and learned self-defense skills from martial arts classes.

What Sơn enjoys most about summer is being able to exercise, meet friends, and discovering something new every day. "I want to continue studying Robotics because I want to create intelligent robots to help people in the future," the boy shared about his dream.

From sports and art classes to technology courses, summer is not just a time for rest, but also an opportunity for many children to discover themselves, nurture their passions, and grow through experience.
