Da Nang identifies urban railway as the "backbone" of smart transportation

With a long-term vision, Da Nang identifies urban railways as the backbone of the smart transport network, connecting the inner city with neighboring cities, expanding connections, and forming a chain of regional economic and tourist cities.

On October 24, in Da Nang, the workshop “Building the urban railway system in Da Nang - Vision, challenges and sustainable solutions” took place. Director of Vietnam Railways Administration Tran Thien Canh and Vice Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee Le Quang Nam co-chaired the event.

During 2 days (October 24 and 25), the workshop focused on an overview of the planning of Da Nang urban railway lines and the investment plan for the urban railway system of Da Nang city.

In the event program, the Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board shared Hanoi's experience in investing in the construction of urban railway lines. The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board presented its experience in the process of implementing the construction of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Line No. 1 project.

Delegates and domestic and international experts discussed and shared experiences in project management, operation, maintenance and urban development (TOD) of the Urban Railway in Shenzhen City, proposed an urban railway network for Da Nang; analyzed popular urban railway types globally; advantages, disadvantages and recommended the most suitable model for Da Nang, and new policies to promote the development of the railway sector.

Experts also discussed, analyzed, and proposed comparisons of international experience and Vietnamese practices to select the optimal technology model for Da Nang; specific mechanisms, industrial development, and sustainable human resources for Da Nang railway.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Le Quang Nam said that this is an event that brings together the intelligence, experience and vision of scientists , experts, consultants, managers and businesses at home and abroad to exchange ideas for Da Nang.

This includes planning orientation, technology selection and implementation methods for urban railway projects in the coming time. To maintain sustainable growth and improve the quality of life, meeting the requirements of regional space development, Da Nang needs to have an important breakthrough in developing public transport infrastructure that is smart, modern and environmentally friendly. In which, urban railways play a key role in the entire system.
