With a long-term vision, Da Nang has identified the urban railway as the backbone of its smart transportation network, connecting the inner city with neighboring cities, expanding linkages, and forming a chain of regional economic and tourism cities.

On October 24th, a workshop titled "Building the Da Nang Urban Railway System - Vision, Challenges, and Sustainable Solutions" was held in Da Nang. The event was co-chaired by Mr. Tran Thien Canh, Director of the Vietnam Railway Authority, and Mr. Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee.

Over two days (October 24th and 25th), the workshop focused on providing an overview of the planning for Da Nang's urban railway lines and the investment plan for the city's urban railway system.

During the event, the Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board shared Hanoi's experience in investing in and constructing urban railway lines. The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Project Management Board presented its experience in implementing the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Line 1 project.

Delegates and experts from both domestic and international backgrounds discussed and shared experiences in project management, operation, maintenance, and urban development (TOD) of urban railways in Shenzhen; proposed an urban railway network for Da Nang; analyzed popular urban railway models globally; discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each model and recommended the most suitable model for Da Nang; and discussed new policies to promote the development of the railway sector.

Experts also discussed, analyzed, and proposed a comparison of international experience and Vietnamese practice to select the optimal technology model for Da Nang; specific mechanisms, industrial development, and sustainable human resource development for the Da Nang railway.

According to Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, this event brings together the intellect, experience, and vision of scientists , experts, consultants, managers, and businesses from both within and outside the country to exchange ideas for Da Nang.

This includes planning orientation, technology selection, and implementation methods for urban railway projects in the coming period. To maintain sustainable growth and improve the quality of life, and to meet the requirements of regional spatial development, Da Nang needs a significant breakthrough in developing smart, modern, and environmentally friendly public transportation infrastructure. Urban railways play a key role in this entire system.

"This is not just a means of connectivity, but also a sustainable solution that contributes to reducing traffic congestion and encouraging environmentally friendly transportation; aiming to build a multimodal, intelligent, and low-carbon transportation system, making Da Nang a green transportation city in the future," emphasized Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee.
