After the 2-1 victory over U23 Philippines in the semi-finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, U23 Vietnam entered a recovery training session in the gym on the afternoon of July 26. The training session aimed to restore physical strength and stabilize the competition state before the confrontation with U23 Indonesia in the final.
Notably, striker Nguyen Quoc Viet – who was injured after a collision with a U23 Philippines player – was still able to join his teammates in the training session. According to information from the team, the “King of the Youth Tournament” did not suffer a serious injury and is recovering well. This helps coach Kim Sang-sik have the strongest squad for the important match.
On the afternoon of July 26, coach Kim Sang-sik and fitness expert Cedric Roger divided the team into two groups for a gym session. The starting players only did stretching and conditioning exercises, while the reserve or semi-final group increased their strength and endurance training. Before that, the whole team had a full morning rest to recover from the emotional semi-final match.
Tomorrow (July 27), U23 Vietnam will return to the field to perfect their tactics for the final match against host U23 Indonesia. The match will take place at 8:00 p.m. on July 29 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.
This is the third consecutive time that U23 Vietnam has participated in the final of the U23 Southeast Asia. With the strongest squad in hand and confidence from the two most recent championships, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team aim to successfully defend the title.
