Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin works with the Governor of the Central Bank of Mozambique

Vietnam wishes to strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation with Mozambique, in which the finance and banking sector plays an important role.

On May 29, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin had a working session with Mr. Rogério Lucas Zandamela, Governor of the Central Bank of Mozambique.

Also attending the meeting were the Chief of the Governor's Office, Director of the International Cooperation Department and a number of officials from functional units of the Central Bank of Mozambique.

At the meeting, Governor Rogério Lucas Zandamela welcomed Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin to Mozambique to take up her duties at an important time when the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (June 25, 1975 - June 25, 2025) and wished the Ambassador a successful term of office, actively contributing to the development of bilateral relations.

The Governor informed the Ambassador about the economic, financial and monetary situation of Mozambique in recent times. Despite many difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change as well as political and security instability in the period after the recent general election, the Government of Mozambique in general and the Central Bank in particular have actively implemented quick, flexible and drastic measures to improve foreign exchange liquidity and stabilize macro-finance, bringing specific and positive changes to the people of Mozambique.

For her part, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin informed Governor Rogério Lucas Zandamela about Vietnam's recent economic and social situation, including key economic, financial and monetary policies.

According to the Ambassador, Vietnam's reasonable and flexible monetary policy has contributed significantly to the positive results of the economy, as in 2024, Vietnam controlled inflation below 4.5%, while economic growth reached 7.08%.

Informing the Governor about the good results in the Vietnam-Mozambique cooperation relationship in recent times in many fields, the Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam wishes to strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation with Mozambique, in which the finance and banking sector plays an important role, creating a solid foundation for bilateral trade activities.

The Ambassador requested the Central Bank to continue to pay attention to and support Vietnamese enterprises that are investing and doing business with Mozambique, and affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy is ready to be a bridge connecting the Central Bank of Mozambique and the State Bank of Vietnam, as well as banking, credit and financial institutions between the two countries to enhance experience exchange and promote cooperation.

Mr. Rogério Lucas Zandamela was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Mozambique from September 2016 to present. He has many years of experience working at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Armenia, Costa Rica, Gambia, Guatemala, Liberia, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Peru, Zimbabwe... and was the IMF Representative in Brazil.
