Boarding and semi-boarding activities after the storm were carried out by schools with great effort.
The hot water kitchen has officially been put into operation, ensuring enough hot water for more than 520 boarding students of Bat Xat District Secondary and High School located in Muong Hum Commune. The boarding area collapsed after the storm, so the school temporarily arranged for more than 300 students to stay in a multi-purpose house, while living conditions are still guaranteed. Giang Lao Ta, a student of Bat Xat District Secondary and High School, shared: "It's more cramped here, but there is still enough electricity and fans. The teachers have also bought personal cabinets for us, so we feel it's safe."
Immediately after the storm, boarding and semi-boarding activities resumed. However, schools also encountered many difficulties due to affected facilities. Temporary kitchens were set up, and food safety issues were focused on in the post-flood environmental conditions that pose many potential safety risks. Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Principal of Quan Ho Than Primary and Secondary Boarding School No. 1, Simacai District, shared: “The school's boarding committee met and had a dialogue to maintain boarding and ensure food safety. The on-duty team had to take turns managing the students. The school's trade union will participate in monitoring and ensuring the quantity and freshness of food from the supplier.”
Socialized resources to overcome the consequences of natural disasters have been reasonably allocated to schools by theeducation sector.
Nearly 4 billion VND is the amount of cash that the education sector and schools mobilized from socialized sources to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, not to mention many books and necessities. This is an important support, helping schools ensure learning and living conditions for students, especially for boarding and semi-boarding schools in the affected areas. Mr. Vu Xuan Que, Principal of Bat Xat District Secondary and High School, said: "The school received more than 500 million VND in cash and supplies, equivalent to more than 1.5 billion VND. We have classified which items are valuable and can be included in the list of common use for the school. In the coming time, we will complete the documents to send to the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the district and the Department of Education and Training."
Mr. Nguyen Minh Thuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lao Cai province said: “The Department has a team to allocate support to schools. With direct support units, we request schools to use it immediately to improve essential learning conditions at school.”
In recent times, Lao Cai province has taken drastic actions against violations in the management of boarding and semi-boarding schools, and the implementation of policies for students and teachers. After the floods, the inspection and supervision of the implementation of policies and regulations continued to be promoted by the education sector in accordance with the province's direction: Strictly and promptly handle violating groups and individuals./.
