Proactively sow seeds early.
From May 15th, cooperatives and farmers in La Bong village, Hoa Tien commune, have been urgently completing land preparation for sowing the summer-autumn rice crop. Some farmers have even proactively pumped water from canals into their fields to sow medium- and short-day rice varieties early, ensuring timely harvesting and minimizing damage from late-season floods.
Mr. Tran Van Thang (La Bong village, Hoa Tien commune) shared: “La Bong village is frequently deeply flooded when the floodwaters come, so farmers have to sow early and use medium- and short-day rice varieties to harvest in time, avoiding damage from the late summer-autumn crop.”
According to Le Dinh Ca, Vice Chairman of the Hoa Tien Commune People's Committee, the locality is cultivating 830.8 hectares of rice this summer-autumn season. To ensure yield and production and minimize damage from late-season floods, the commune has scheduled sowing: medium-day rice varieties (95-105 days) from May 15-20; short-day varieties (under 95 days) from May 20-31. Approximately 65% of the total area will be sown with key varieties including HG244, DT100, Ha Phat 3, and HG12; 25% with HT1, DT68, Thien Uu 8, and VNR10; and about 10% with the promising DB18 rice variety.

“The commune has directed agencies, units, and villages to focus on dredging and repairing the irrigation canal system in the fields, and proactively launch campaigns to eradicate rats at the beginning of the season. We guide farmers to follow the correct planting schedule, promote agricultural policies, encourage the application of science and technology, and develop production in linked chains to reduce costs and improve economic efficiency; we are also proactively preparing plans to respond to drought and floods,” said Mr. Le Dinh Ca.
Mr. Huynh Cao Tri, Deputy Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Planning Department of Hoa Xuan Ward, informed: “This year's summer-autumn crop saw farmers in the ward sow over 283 hectares, mainly medium and short-day rice varieties such as Ha Phat 3, DT100, DT68, VNR20...
Overall, the summer-autumn rice crop production is progressing smoothly so far. The ward is closely coordinating with villages and cooperatives to closely monitor the production situation, providing timely guidance and support to ensure a high-yield summer-autumn crop.”
They prefer medium- and short-day rice varieties.
This year, Dien Ban Tay commune is implementing agricultural production on approximately 2,000 hectares during the summer-autumn season, mainly sowing HT1 rice, a short-day, high-quality purebred rice variety with a growth period of 90-95 days. The commune organized training courses on rice production techniques and pest control measures for the summer-autumn rice crop in various villages. These courses guided farmers on proper planting schedules and rice varieties; correct sowing density; balanced fertilization according to each growth stage of the rice plant; and safe and effective use of pesticides.
Deputy Chairman of Dien Ban Tay Commune People's Committee, Tran Ngoc Chinh, directed units, cooperatives, and villages to focus on summer-autumn rice production, closely following the planting schedule of the Department of Agriculture and Environment. In addition, they were instructed to proactively respond to drought and water shortages; regularly monitor crop pests and diseases; mobilize farmers to control rats to protect production results; strengthen the application of science and technology; and encourage production in the direction of product consumption linkages…
Similarly, to effectively implement rice production on 510 hectares during the summer-autumn season, the People's Committee of Go Noi commune organized training courses on rice cultivation techniques, pest control, and safe pesticide use in villages throughout the commune.

At the same time, villages, cooperatives, and cooperative groups are required to strengthen drought and disease prevention and control, and apply scientific and technological advancements to ensure rice yield and quality. The People's Committee of Thang Binh commune is focusing on directing the summer-autumn rice crop on approximately 1,620 hectares, striving to achieve a yield of over 9,477 tons.
According to the agricultural production schedule for the summer-autumn crop season issued by the Department of Agriculture and Environment, rice sowing and transplanting will be completed by June 5th, mainly using medium and short-day rice varieties.
For rice fields harvested late in the winter-spring season (after May 5th), only short-duration rice varieties (under 95 days) should be sown to allow the soil to recover and detoxify, while also ensuring the overall planting schedule for the entire city. The Department of Agriculture and Environment also recommends that the city does not advocate the use of long-duration rice varieties (growing period exceeding 105 days) in the summer-autumn season.
For production in high mountainous areas and some localities that still maintain the practice of using indigenous rice varieties, hybrid rice, and glutinous rice, it is necessary to base the planting schedule on the growth time of each variety to proactively sow early or transplant seedlings, ensuring that the rice flowers according to the recommended seasonal schedule.
According to Doan Van Bao, Deputy Head of the Da Nang Plant Protection and Crop Production Sub-Department (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment), as of May 27th, localities had sown and transplanted rice seedlings on approximately 9,200 hectares. The Sub-Department has requested localities to focus on implementing production directives, urgently prepare the land to ensure timely planting of the 2026 summer-autumn crop according to the seasonal schedule, and closely monitor the salinity situation to provide timely guidance for production.
