"Effective mass mobilization" in remote areas

Through the "Effective Mass Mobilization" emulation movement, the communes in the U Minh Thuong region have developed many good models and effective methods, contributing to the promotion of local socio-economic development.

Visiting the U Minh Thuong region today, one can easily see the transformation of what was once a difficult area. The muddy dirt roads of the past have been paved with smooth concrete, connecting villages and hamlets. Along the roads, spacious houses have sprung up amidst the vast green expanse of rice paddies, shrimp farms, and orchards. Schools, health centers, and local markets have been invested in and improved. Children happily go to school. The joyful laughter of hardworking people fills the air amidst the melaleuca forests during bountiful harvests and good prices… All of this creates a peaceful and promising picture of the countryside.

In Don Dong hamlet, Vinh Thuan commune, local residents have been delighted over the past few years as the hamlet's roads have been newly constructed, clean, beautiful, and equipped with streetlights, making travel more convenient. Mr. Le Van Phoi, a resident of Don Dong hamlet, happily stated: “Thanks to many social welfare projects, Don Dong hamlet is becoming increasingly prosperous. Especially the rural roads in the hamlet are not only clean and beautiful but also have streetlights, making travel easier for residents, ensuring security and order, and contributing to the construction of a new rural area.”

In Lo Ren hamlet, Vinh Thuan commune, Huynh Thi Nhi's family previously faced hardship. Through the hamlet's Women's Association, Ms. Nhi borrowed 30 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to develop her production. Thanks to this capital, her family improved their land for growing crops and raising poultry, gradually stabilizing their economy, lifting them out of poverty, and providing their children with the opportunity to receive a proper education.

Visiting the high-tech cantaloupe farming cooperative in Binh Phong hamlet, Vinh Binh commune, one sees a vast expanse of green within a 3,000m² greenhouse complex. The application of Israeli technology not only brings high economic efficiency but also opens up a new direction for local farmers. Mr. Ha Van Chu, a member of the cooperative, said that by applying science and technology to production, the cooperative has built a fully automated cantaloupe farming model, controlling everything from cable car systems and sunshade nets to air conditioning and drip irrigation using Israeli technology. The advantage of growing cantaloupe in greenhouses is that they protect against rain and prevent insect infestation, thus eliminating the need for pesticides. When harvested, the melon yield reaches 3.5 - 4.3 tons/1,000m², and after deducting costs, the average profit is about 60 million VND/crop/1,000m² (each crop takes 85 - 90 days)... Currently, the melons from the cooperative, after being purchased by a partner company, have been exported to demanding markets such as Japan and Singapore...

In another locality, U Minh Thuong commune, stemming from the practice of saving and learning according to Uncle Ho's teachings, the grassroots trade union of the former An Minh Bac commune, now U Minh Thuong commune, utilizes scrap paper, old newspapers, and magazines that are no longer used to sell and raise funds to donate uniforms, books, notebooks, or cash to regularly assist 11 academically gifted students from disadvantaged backgrounds in the area...

Over the past period, localities in the U Minh Thuong region have had dozens of good models and innovative approaches that have proven effective and been replicated, such as: mobilizing people to change the structure of crops and livestock, applying science and technology to production; building model residential areas, self-governing groups for security and order; flower-lined roads, waste incinerators; preserving and promoting the traditional cultural identity of ethnic minorities; fundraising to build houses for Party members with difficult housing circumstances; revolving capital groups; the "Godmother" program, etc.

Mr. Huynh Ngoc Nguyen, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Thuan commune, said that in remote communes, mass mobilization work is also demonstrated through practical care for the lives of the people. When people face difficulties due to lack of capital for production, the local authorities coordinate with mass organizations to act as guarantors for loans from the Social Policy Bank. When some households are hesitant to switch to new business models, officials from the farmers' association, women's association, and youth union directly provide technical guidance and introduce effective models for people to visit and learn from. For families whose children drop out of school, village officials, along with teachers and mass organizations, visit the homes to encourage and resolve each obstacle…

Mr. Nguyen Van Thoan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Vinh Binh commune, shared that recognizing that mass mobilization work must lead the way for tasks related to all aspects of social life, thereby creating consensus among the people to work together and contribute to building the homeland, the locality continues to promote the "Skilled Mass Mobilization" emulation movement in conjunction with patriotic emulation movements and the implementation of the local political tasks. This helps to build and replicate effective models and good practices, creating a ripple effect across all aspects of social life, contributing to building an increasingly prosperous and beautiful homeland.
