On the evening of January 12, information from the Department of Education and Training of Long An said that early this afternoon, a number of teachers and students at Bac Hoa Primary and Secondary School, Tan Thanh District (Long An) finished organizing cultural and artistic activities and went to a restaurant in Tan Thanh town to have dinner.

While eating hot pot, a gas tank in the hot pot stove suddenly exploded, burning 2 teachers and 7 students (2 elementary school students and 5 middle school students).

Immediately afterwards, the remaining teachers and the shop owner quickly took the injured teachers and students to a medical facility for treatment, including an 8th grade student who was seriously injured and was transferred to Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital for emergency treatment.
