On the morning of July 1, at Ho Chi Minh City cemetery (Lac Canh cemetery), on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the birth of the late General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh (July 1, 1915 - July 1, 2025), a delegation of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City offered incense and flowers to the late General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh and generations of leaders and revolutionary veterans who have made great contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The delegation was led by Party Central Committee member and Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi.


Here, delegates offered incense, flowers and expressed their deep gratitude to the great contributions of the late General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh and other heroes and outstanding leaders of the Party and State.
Also in the morning of the same day, the photo exhibition "Comrade Nguyen Van Linh - The steadfast and creative leader of the Vietnamese revolution" was opened at Lam Son Park and Thanh Nien Cultural House.
The exhibition took place from July 1 to 5, displaying 100 valuable documentary images summarizing the life, revolutionary career and great and important contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh to the Southern revolution in his positions from Secretary of the Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh City Party Committee, Secretary of the Southern Regional Party Committee to member of the Central Committee of the Southern Region.
The exhibition also shows the honest, simple life imbued with the love of compatriots of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh, a shining example of a steadfast and brave communist soldier, dedicating his whole life to the revolutionary cause "loyal to the country, devoted to the people".
Late General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh (Muoi Cuc), born on July 1, 1915. Hometown: Giai Pham commune, My Van district, Hung Yen province.
From 1981 to 1986, as Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Linh continued to lead the city to overcome difficulties. He gave the green light for Ho Chi Minh City to "break the barrier" of innovation with a decision considered bold at that time when eliminating the centralized and subsidized mechanism, piloting economic management innovation in a number of state-owned enterprises. These were the first breakthroughs on the path to eliminating the old management mechanism.
With the mindset of "practice is the most practical teacher", Mr. Nguyen Van Linh invited Central leaders to survey factories, creating great persuasion about the innovation of Ho Chi Minh City with Central leaders.
The ideas and methods of Mr. Nguyen Van Linh and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee were listened to and supported by the Party Central Committee and the Politburo, combined with theoretical research and general practice summary of the Party. After that, the Central leadership made important decisions.
In June 1985, the 8th Central Committee Conference of the 5th Party Congress issued a Resolution officially abolishing the centralized management mechanism of bureaucracy, administration, and subsidies, switching to accounting, business..., starting with changing policies on prices, wages, and currency.
In 1986, the 6th National Congress of the Party decided on the renovation policy.
The Party decided to focus on economic innovation with a policy of developing many economic sectors during the transition period; abolishing the centralized management mechanism of bureaucracy, administration, and subsidies, focusing on economic accounting, and properly combining planning with the market mechanism.
Along with that, focus on implementing food production programs, consumer goods and export goods programs; innovate social policies, care for the interests and lives of workers...
Innovation in the Party's leadership, working style and State management; improving the capacity to manage the country and society by law... are among the important contents identified by the congress.
The 6th Party Congress elected Mr. Nguyen Van Linh as General Secretary. With a keen strategic mind and skillful application of theory to practice, the late General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh proposed and persistently implemented principled innovation. That is innovation but always maintaining the socialist orientation, maintaining and strengthening the Party's leadership, respecting and promoting the people's right to mastery.
