Dang Van Lam is among the top 5 nominees for the Golden Ball award.

Thanks to his consistent performance at Binh Dinh Club and the Vietnamese national team, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam has been shortlisted for the 2023 Vietnamese Golden Ball award.

The remaining four nominees, announced by the organizers on the afternoon of December 28th, include Bui Hoang Viet Anh (CAHN Club), Nguyen Hoang Duc (The Cong Viettel ), Pham Tuan Hai (Hanoi FC), and Ho Tan Tai (CAHN Club).

In 2023, the Vietnamese national team did not participate in any international tournaments, only playing six friendly matches. Therefore, players who shone and achieved good results with their clubs in the V-League and the National Cup were voted on by experts.

Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam couldn't help Binh Dinh win a medal in the 2023 V-League, but he and his teammates performed well in the National Cup, where they won a bronze medal. In the national team, Van Lam also earned the trust of head coach Philippe Troussier. However, in terms of achievements, Van Lam is unlikely to compete with Bui Hoang Viet Anh and Ho Tan Tai – the defensive duo who won the V-League championship with CAHN.

Hoang Duc won the Golden Ball in 2021 and the Bronze Ball in 2022, but his form declined in 2023 and he was not favored by coach Troussier in the Vietnamese national team's friendly matches. However, in the 2023 V-League and the 2023 National Cup, the midfielder still played consistently, helping The Cong win the bronze medal in the V-League and finish second in the National Cup, so he is still included in the shortlist of nominees.

Striker Tuan Hai didn't win any titles, as Hanoi FC finished second in the V-League 2023. However, he shone in the AFC Champions League, scoring a brace in a 2-1 victory against Wuhan Three Towns of China. Since 2022, Tuan Hai is the Vietnamese player with the most goals (25, including 20 for his club and 5 for the national team). The striker, born in 1998, also scored a spectacular long-range goal to help Vietnam win 1-0 against Syria in a friendly match at Thien Truong Stadium on June 20th. He then scored in another friendly match against Palestine, 2-0, also at Thien Truong Stadium on September 11th. Most recently, Tuan Hai scored another stunning goal from midfield against Binh Duong in a rescheduled match of the first round of the V-League 2023-2024. He subsequently received the Goal of the Month award for November.

In the Women's Golden Ball category, the five shortlisted nominees are Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha, Pham Hai Yen (Hanoi FC), Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy (Ho Chi Minh City FC), and Huynh Nhu (Lank FC). Thanks to her excellent performance at the 2023 World Cup, winning the SEA Games gold medal with the Vietnamese women's team, and winning the 2023 national championship with Ho Chi Minh City FC, goalkeeper Kim Thanh has a strong chance of winning the Golden Ball for the first time.

The Futsal Golden Ball award has five shortlisted nominees: Pham Duc Hoa, Nhan Gia Hung, Chau Doan Phat, Ho Van Y (all from Thai Son Nam Club), and Lam Tan Phat (Sahako). Similarly, the shortlisted nominees for the Best Young Male Player award include Nguyen Dinh Bac (Quang Nam), Khuat Van Khang (The Cong Viettel), and Nguyen Thai Son (Dong A Thanh Hoa). The shortlisted nominees for the Best Young Female Player award include Ngoc Minh Chuyen ( Thai Nguyen ), Vu Thi Hoa (Hanoi), and Vu Thi Hoa (Phong Phu Ha Nam).

The award for best foreign player has only three nominees: Bruno Cunha (The Cong Viettel), Jhon Cley (LPBank HAGL), and Rafaelson (Thep Xanh Nam Dinh).

The Vietnam Golden Ball Awards ceremony will take place on the evening of February 19, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City.
