Mr. Ly Truong Sang (2nd from right) and leaders of Ha Tien ward visited and encouraged the family of Mr. Tran Van Tham, residing in ward 3.
Timely support
At the age of over 60, Mr. Tran Van Tham (resident of Quarter 3, Ha Tien Ward) is thin and still rides his old motorbike every day, earning a living by driving a motorbike taxi and collecting scrap metal. His unstable income is only enough for Mr. Tham to buy medicine to treat diabetes and raise his grandchild who is in 5th grade. Previously, the dilapidated house with a leaky roof made the two of them spend many nights shivering in fear during the rainy season.
Knowing Mr. Tham's situation, Mr. Ly Truong Sang, a party member in charge of Mr. Tham's family, mobilized party members in the neighborhood and philanthropists to donate to build a new house of nearly 40 square meters, with a corrugated iron roof, brick floor, and solid walls, costing 100 million VND. After just over 2 months of construction, the new house was completed to the joy of Mr. Tham and his family members. Since having a new house, he has been able to work with peace of mind and has escaped poverty. "Having a decent place to live, I have more motivation to work. My grandfather and I are very grateful," Mr. Tham said emotionally.
According to Mr. Ly Truong Sang, doing useful work for the people does not necessarily mean waiting to do something too big, but can start with small, close and practical things in daily life. That is dedication in work, a sincere attitude when interacting with people and sharing with all my heart with those who are still in need to motivate them to rise up in life. "My greatest joy is seeing positive changes in each family I am attached to, being trusted by the Party Committee and especially receiving sincere love from the people" - Mr. Sang said. Also from that wish, he often goes to the homes of households in difficult circumstances to learn, listen, and from there propose appropriate support directions. For young people who aspire to start a business, he proactively surveys the needs and promptly advises the Party Committee on timely support plans.
Mrs. Ngo Thi Bon (Thach Dong quarter, Ha Tien ward) is an elderly person, a poor household. The burden of food and clothing is even heavier when she has to take care of 6 grandchildren by herself, whose parents sent her away to work far away. Mrs. Bon does all kinds of jobs, from collecting scrap metal to washing dishes, picking vegetables for hire at the market. Understanding Mrs. Bon's difficult situation, the Ha Tien ward Party Committee assigned party member Ngong Liem to be in charge of monitoring and supporting her family. Not only does she regularly visit and encourage, Ms. Ngong Liem also actively mobilizes benefactors to regularly support rice and necessities for her family.
In 2022, seeing that Mrs. Bon had the spirit to overcome difficulties, Ms. Ngong Liem proposed that the Ward Party Committee register her family to receive support for 2 breeding cows. Thanks to careful care, the 2 cows gave birth to 2 calves, which Mrs. Bon sold for more than 30 million VND. From that capital, she continued to borrow 20 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to open a breakfast shop right in front of her house. Every day, after deducting expenses, she makes a profit of over 500,000 VND. With a stable income, Mrs. Bon is able to take care of 2 children in grade 12 and 4 children in junior high school. At the end of 2024, Mrs. Bon's family escaped poverty. "My family used to be very poor. Thanks to the Party members' regular care and help, we have today. I will try my best to take care of my children's education" - Mrs. Bon shared.
More than 1,000 households have party members accompanying them.
The model of party members monitoring and taking charge of households has been deployed by the Ha Tien City Party Committee (now the Ha Tien Ward Party Committee) since 2021. Immediately after the model was deployed, local party cells actively responded, especially focusing on promoting the role of young party members. After more than 4 years of implementation, the model has spread widely throughout the ward with more than 500 party members assigned to take charge of more than 1,000 households in difficult circumstances, having been involved in social evils or at risk of violating social order and safety. Each party member is in charge of an average of 8-10 households, acting as a bridge between the Party and the people, promptly grasping their thoughts and aspirations, supporting and encouraging people to stabilize their lives.
Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ha Tien Ward, Duong Van Thuan, said: "Party members in charge of households do not simply provide material support, but more importantly, they are often close to the people, understand the people, promptly propagate and mobilize people to well implement the Party's policies, the State's policies and laws, community conventions, especially in building a cultural lifestyle and maintaining security and order in residential areas."
Thanks to the support of the Party members, the poverty rate of the entire Ha Tien ward has decreased to less than 0.7%. Some households that once violated the law have now overcome their violations and are doing business honestly. The emulation movements to build civilized neighborhoods have received positive responses from the people, and the village and neighborhood relationships have become more closely connected.
Not stopping at the current results, the Party Committee of Ha Tien Ward continues to improve the model of party members monitoring and taking charge of households by organizing training on skills and propaganda content for party members. At the same time, strengthen inspection and supervision of the implementation of the model. "Party members are the core nucleus of the people, companions, inspirers and believers. Through this model, we hope to build a strong Party organization from the grassroots, with the trust and attachment between the Party and the People" - Mr. Duong Van Thuan affirmed.
