His relationship with Vietnam began when Amiad Horowitz completed his Master's thesis in History in Israel. From there, he became interested in the life, career and ideology of President Ho Chi Minh .

Author Amiad Horowitz made an impression when he won the A prize in the 2nd Political Writing Contest on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation and Fighting Against Wrong and Hostile Views - 2022 for his work "On the Importance of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the International Communist Movement and Our Responsibility of Solidarity - The Perspective of an American Communist".
After three years, he is still an active scholar in international forums, has activities connecting left-wing organizations and continues to contribute a steadfast voice for the ideals he pursues.
So we decided to meet him, not only to understand more about the journey of an American communist in the heart of Hanoi, but also to listen to his thoughts in the new context, when the world is changing strongly in both geopolitics and ideology.
When asked about his journey to enlightenment of communist ideals, Amiad Horowitz said it was a long journey. After his first visit to Vietnam in 2011, he returned to the S-shaped strip of land in 2013 and has been there ever since.
During his stay, the stability and daily development of the country aroused in him many thoughts about the prejudices about communism that he had learned in his homeland. From there, he began to study more deeply about President Ho Chi Minh, Karl Marx, and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
He shared: “The change in Vietnam from 2011 to now is amazing. I think that, once living here, witnessing the peace , stability and development of the country, it is difficult not to be attracted to the communist ideal.”
According to Amiad Horowitz, unlike many countries that used to follow socialism but have collapsed or changed direction, Vietnam still maintains the foundation of Marxist-Leninist ideology and Ho Chi Minh ideology, and at the same time knows how to adapt to historical and contemporary conditions.

This is especially impressive to him when looking at how Vietnam has overcome crises from war, embargo, to the Covid-19 pandemic, or most recently, super typhoon Yagi.
According to him, Vietnam's strength comes not only from the leadership of the Communist Party but also from the people: community awareness, sense of responsibility and trust in the Party's guidelines.
He was particularly impressed by the way Vietnamese people are always willing to share and support each other in everyday life: “In Vietnam, everyone helps each other to move forward. The spirit of solidarity, sharing and equality exists in all aspects of daily life. These things have created a sustainable social foundation, where each individual contributes to the development of the whole community."
As a Communist Party member, he said that approaching communist ideology in a capitalist country is quite difficult, especially in the US.
“Some comrades in the Communist Party USA have to use fake names, because if they are discovered, they can be fired. Algorithms in the media are also an obstacle. It is very difficult to access accurate sources of information, and there are even right-wing parties that impersonate communists to spread false information,” he said.
However, Amiad Horowitz is not pessimistic. He believes in the power of knowledge, of dialogue and of young people willing to seek the truth outside the beaten path.
His enthusiasm for the belief in socialism has motivated him to actively participate in political activities, as evidenced by his entry that won first prize in the 2022 Political Writing Contest on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation.
This communist said that, following the spirit of internationalism in Ho Chi Minh's ideology, his article not only protects the ideology of the Communist Party of Vietnam but also speaks for the Communist Party of the United States as well as all Communist Parties around the world.
When asked about Vietnam's role in the future of the global socialist movement, Amiad was optimistic, saying that independence in policy, the ability to adapt flexibly to international trends, and its own identity are what make Vietnam a model of modern and effective socialism.
He hopes that through his activities, Vietnamese people as well as people around the world will better understand the communist ideal and the communist movement taking place around the world.
“There is a Communist Party in France, in Spain, in Japan… I think not many people know that,” he shared.

From theoretical pages to vivid experiences in the heart of Vietnam, Amiad Horowitz's journey is a testament to an ideal nurtured by real-life experience.
He came to the S-shaped country not only to study, but also to live with the ideals he believes in: a socialism with Vietnamese identity, associated with people, community and the aspiration for sustainable development.
Although he humbly does not consider himself a bridge, for us, Amiad Horowitz has been contributing to building a quiet but solid bridge between two cultures and two ways of looking at the world.
