In the early hours of May 19th, Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Burnley in the 37th round of the 2025-2026 Premier League. These crucial three points temporarily extended Mikel Arteta's side's lead over Manchester City to five points in the standings, despite their rivals having two games in hand.

Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the match.
From the start of the match, Arsenal proactively pushed their formation high up the pitch in an attempt to score an early goal against Burnley, a team already relegated and opting for a defensive approach with a large number of players behind the ball. With a clear advantage in ball control, the Emirates Stadium side continuously launched attacks from both flanks to stretch the opposing defense.
Arsenal's first dangerous opportunity came in the 15th minute, when Leandro Trossard combined well with Eberechi Eze before unleashing a powerful shot that hit the post, much to the disappointment of the home fans. Shortly afterwards, Bukayo Saka continued to trouble the Burnley defense with his speedy dribbling down the right wing and dangerous crosses.
In the 34th minute, Arsenal believed they deserved a penalty when Saka fell in the penalty area after a collision with Lucas Pires. However, after consulting VAR, the referee decided not to award the home team a penalty.
Nevertheless, Arsenal's relentless pressure finally paid off before the end of the first half. From a perfectly placed corner kick by Saka, Kai Havertz rose high to head the ball into the net, scoring the only goal of the match and giving the Gunners a 1-0 lead.
