Entering the final, both U20 Uruguay and U20 Italy were determined to win their first title. Previously, the South American representatives reached the final in 1997 and 2013, but both times finished second.

Uruguay started the game proactively and put a lot of pressure on Italy with consecutive scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the match, even though Italy had the upper hand in ball control. In the first half, Italy was almost stuck in finding a way into the opponent's goal.

In the second half, everything happened quite similar to the first half. U20 Uruguay pressed the field while Italy was in a passive position.

But it was not until the 85th minute that Uruguay could score against Italy. From a corner kick on the right wing, the ball bounced and Luciano Rodriguez seized the opportunity to head the ball close to the goal, defeating the opposing goalkeeper.

Uruguay U20 could have doubled the gap in extra time if goalkeeper Desplanches had not made a brilliant save in a face-off with five opposing players when Italy was counter-attacked.

Uruguay U20 won with the minimum score and won the U20 World Cup for the first time. Thus, this South American representative successfully changed the color of the medal after being runner-up twice.

In the previous third-place match, U20 Israel defeated U20 Korea with a score of 3-1. This is a very impressive achievement, because in the first time participating in a FIFA World Cup, U20 Israel entered the world's Top 3.

Previously, Israel U20 had problems participating in the finals when the tournament was originally held in Indonesia due to the Governor of Bali refusing their participation. This caused FIFA to withdraw Indonesia's hosting rights and give them to Argentina.
