Located in the northern part of Lam Dong province, Dam Rong 4 commune is blessed with a cool climate year-round, abundant headwater streams, and a stable supply of clean water. These unique conditions have created a distinct advantage for developing cold-water fish farming, a field that is attracting attention from many localities due to its high economic value and sustainable development potential.

Recognizing the potential of the natural cold water resources and the unique local climate, Mr. Truong Dinh Nam, Director of Anh Duc Cooperative in Hamlet 1, Dam Rong 4 Commune, chose sturgeon farming as his main economic development direction. With the goal of building a large-scale production model and engaging local people in the value chain, Mr. Nam has gradually invested in infrastructure, aiming to establish a concentrated cold-water fish farming area.

From the very beginning, Anh Duc Cooperative invested approximately 20 billion VND in constructing a system of ponds, technical infrastructure, and supporting facilities on an area of ​​over 1 hectare. The entire farming area is designed comprehensively, from the water supply and drainage system and settling ponds to the commercial ponds, utilizing cold water from upstream streams to maintain a stable growing environment for sturgeon. With its current scale, the system is capable of receiving and caring for 70,000 to 80,000 sturgeon fingerlings per production cycle.

According to Mr. Truong Dinh Nam, the farming process is strictly controlled from the selection of broodstock and water environment management to care and disease prevention, aiming to improve survival rates and product quality. “The climate and water conditions in Dam Rong 4 are very suitable for developing cold-water fish. We are committed to long-term investment, focusing on product quality and building partnerships with local people for mutual development,” Mr. Nam shared.

In addition to focusing on production, the cooperative is also gradually applying advanced technical processes to improve productivity, minimize risks, and ensure the quality of commercial fish when brought to market.

Forming linkages with the people.

One of the highlights of Anh Duc Cooperative is its development model based on partnerships with local households. Currently, the cooperative has 5 members participating in sturgeon farming, creating an initial concentrated production area.

Members receive technical support, share experiences in managing the aquaculture environment, and cooperate in the product consumption process. This collaboration helps reduce input costs, improve production efficiency, and increase adaptability to market fluctuations.

After about 10-12 months of farming, sturgeon reach an average weight of 2-3 kg/fish and can be sold commercially. With the current scale, the cooperative and its members supply a large quantity of sturgeon to the market, serving restaurants, food businesses, and distribution channels in the region.

According to the leaders of Dam Rong 4 commune People's Committee, the locality has many advantages for developing cold-water fish farming thanks to abundant natural water resources and suitable climatic conditions. The cooperative models with local people not only create more jobs but also contribute to effectively exploiting existing potential, gradually increasing the value of agricultural production in the area.

Targeting specialized product lines

Not only Dam Rong 4, but the entire northern region of Lam Dong province is currently considered to have great potential for developing cold-water fish farming. Along with natural advantages, the increasingly improved transportation infrastructure is creating favorable conditions for expanding production scale and connecting to consumer markets.

The leaders of Lam Dong province believe that developing high-tech agriculture, linked to the advantages of each ecological region, is one of the important orientations of the locality. In particular, cold-water fish farming is considered a high-value economic sector, suitable for the natural conditions of the highland communes, and with significant potential for development towards concentrated commercial production.

Based on that direction, Anh Duc Cooperative is continuing to research and expand its linkages with households that have suitable water resources, gradually forming concentrated farming areas, improving product quality, and building a local sturgeon brand.

From the fish ponds nestled amidst the mountains and forests of Dam Rong 4, the Anh Duc Cooperative's collaborative model is demonstrating a suitable direction in exploiting natural advantages for economic development. Not only does it create jobs and income for the people, but the model also contributes to opening up prospects for the formation of a distinctive agricultural industry, increasing the value of agricultural production and promoting sustainable rural economic development in this potentially rich region.
