The People's Council of An Giang province recently held a special session to pass several important resolutions aimed at removing development bottlenecks, promoting the disbursement of public investment, and issuing policies to support fishermen in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Accordingly, An Giang province applies two specific levels of financial support from the local budget and other legitimate funding sources. For upgrading vessel tracking devices, the support level is 50% of the cost, but not exceeding 5 million VND per vessel. For replacing vessel tracking devices with new ones, the support level is 50% of the actual cost, with a maximum of 11 million VND per vessel.
Each fishing vessel is only eligible for this policy once. The support will be provided from the date the Resolution takes effect until December 31, 2026.
The beneficiaries are organizations and individuals with fishing vessels with a maximum length of 15m or more registered in An Giang province, which have installed vessel tracking devices before May 19, 2024, but do not yet meet the conditions stipulated in Clause 2, Article 26, Decree No. 41/2026/ND-CP detailing some provisions and measures for the implementation of the Fisheries Law.
Eligibility requirements for support include: the vessel owner must possess complete and valid legal documentation, not violate IUU fishing regulations, not fish beyond maritime boundaries, not maintain or intentionally disable vessel tracking equipment (except in cases of force majeure), and not have received similar support elsewhere.
The issuance of policies to support the fight against IUU fishing demonstrates An Giang's political determination and responsibility, contributing to the country's efforts to quickly lift the European Commission's (EC) "yellow card" warning and fulfill its commitment to developing responsible and sustainable fisheries.
