Vocational training - opening up livelihoods to escape poverty in Ea Nuôl

Vocational training for rural workers has been identified as one of the important solutions to help people proactively improve their lives.

As night falls, the community center of Knia 3 hamlet (Ea Nuôl commune) remains brightly lit. The rhythmic hum of industrial sewing machines blends with the lively chatter of students after a long day of work in the fields. In that classroom, Ms. Truong Thi Thai – a teacher from the Buôn Đôn Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center – patiently guides the villagers in their needlework.

Ms. Truong Thi Thai (in the black shirt) meticulously guides the students through each stitch.

Following the motto "hands-on guidance" and "learning by doing," Ms. Thai and her colleagues always emphasize practical application, helping students easily understand, remember, and quickly improve their skills. To suit the level and conditions of the learners, the teachers have invested in designing flexible lesson plans, using many visual illustrations. After each practical lesson, students have a sample product to compare with, allowing them to self-check, learn from their mistakes, and gradually perfect their techniques.

Sharing about the teaching process at the facility, Ms. Truong Thi Thai said: “The villagers are very diligent, but initially they were hesitant about modern machinery. Teachers have to be very approachable and enthusiastic to create a comfortable and lively classroom atmosphere. When the villagers manage to sew a neat collar or a square pocket, everyone's eyes light up with joy. That is the motivation for us to travel long distances and stay in the villages late at night to teach vocational skills.”

Vocational training classes held at night are spreading a spirit of perseverance and a thirst for learning among ethnic minority communities.
The industrial sewing classes held at night have instilled a spirit of perseverance and a thirst for learning among ethnic minority communities.

In 2025, Ms. Truong Thi Thai will be in charge of two industrial sewing classes in Ea Nuol commune with a total of 65 students. The students are mainly ethnic minorities from poor and near-poor households, who are eager to find a sustainable livelihood.

With enthusiasm, dedication, and a willingness to overcome challenges, the teachers created a vibrant and harmonious learning atmosphere, encouraging students to confidently exchange ideas, practice, and improve daily. After three months of continuous study, most students have mastered the basic knowledge and skills, and developed a disciplined work ethic and a sense of responsibility in their profession.

As one of the exemplary trainees, Ms. H'Lược Mlô (Knia 4 village) said that despite being busy with her role as the village Party Secretary and participating in the Farmers' Association activities, she still tries to arrange time to attend all the training courses. For her, learning a trade is not only to set an example for the villagers but also to equip herself with practical skills. Ms. H'Lược shared: "Learning a trade helps me learn how to sew and repair clothes for my family and neighbors. More importantly, I gain more knowledge and skills so that I can do extra work and increase my income in the future."

Not only H'Lược, but also students like H' Nghiêm Adrơng, H'Nháp Êban… have become skilled "hairdressers" in the class.

The sweetest reward after the courses is that the women have a thorough understanding of many important aspects of industrial garment making, from knowledge of raw materials and accessories, workplace safety, to machine operation skills and product quality control. Some young trainees have confidently opened their own shops with their vocational certificates; applied for jobs at garment factories inside and outside the province…

Awarding certificates
Certificates were awarded to students who completed the industrial sewing course.

Vocational training in Ea Nuôl is an important part of the multidimensional poverty reduction strategy being implemented by the local government. In 2025, the close cooperation between the Buôn Đôn Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center and the Ea Nuôl Commune People's Committee was concretized by organizing two industrial sewing classes and two pig farming classes right in the area.

Mr. Bui Hong Thanh, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Ea Nuol commune, shared: "Vocational training for rural laborers, especially poor households and ethnic minorities, is a key task to achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction. These vocational training classes not only equip people with new scientific and technological knowledge but also change their production mindset."

In the coming period, the commune will continue to assess the needs of the people in order to coordinate the opening of more vocational training classes suitable to the local characteristics.
