Beloved country through children's stories

Khanh Hoa Department of Culture and Sports has just coordinated with Ninh Hoa Town People's Committee to organize the 2024 Children's Storytelling Contest. With the theme "Beloved Vietnam", contestants brought to the contest many good and meaningful stories praising the beauty of the homeland, country and people of Vietnam. From there, fostering more love and pride in each young citizen for the Fatherland.

Touching stories

Every summer, children in the province enthusiastically participate in the Children's Storytelling Contest. From district to provincial level, contestants diligently research good stories and practice telling them coherently and expressively. Supporting contestants also actively practice dance moves and skits to create a performance that can best support their friend's performance. Pham Duy An (Van Gia 1 Primary School, Van Ninh District) said: "I am very honored to represent the school and locality to participate in this contest. This is a very useful contest for students in nurturing their talents and encouraging their love of learning and reading. From the contest, I also learned many useful things and realized that I need to read more books to equip myself with knowledge and understanding of many things in life and study."

For Le Khanh Linh (Ninh Hiep Primary School No. 2, Ninh Hoa town), this year's provincial-level Children's Storytelling Contest was held in her hometown of Ninh Hoa, so she wanted to tell her friends from other localities in the province a story about a female hero from her hometown, the martyr and Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Thi Tru. "Through the story, I hope to arouse pride in today's young generation for the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and peace of the country and homeland. From there, each student will be more aware of studying and practicing to contribute to building a rich and prosperous homeland and country," Linh shared.

The Children's Storytelling Contest has two categories for children and teenagers. In the category for children, viewers will hear good, touching stories about the ten girls at Dong Loc crossroads; the heroic soldiers and martyrs of the Vietnam People's Navy protecting the sea and islands of Truong Sa; the beauty of Hon Chong scenic spot in Nha Trang Bay... In the category for teenagers, the children brought stories about: Ponagar Tower relic; the legend of Hon Chong; A1 hill in the old Dien Bien Phu battlefield; the people's feelings for Uncle Ho... In addition to the storytelling, each contest performance was also invested in and staged by the teams quite elaborately in terms of costumes, props, scenery, dancing, singing, and acting.

Spread the reading movement

This year's contest, out of 16 entries in both age groups, there are 5 entries telling the story of the ten girls at Dong Loc crossroads; 4 entries about the Ponagar Tower relic; 2 entries about the Hon Chong scenic spot. Although there are overlaps in topics, with their own staging and performance, the teams still create a good impression on the audience. Typical entries are: Hon Chong - Hon Vo on Nha Trang Bay by contestant Dinh Thuy Duong (Vinh Hai 2 Primary School, Nha Trang City); Ten girls at Dong Loc crossroads by contestant Cao Tran Khanh An (Dien Dien Primary School, Dien Khanh District); The daughter of Dinh River by contestant Le Khanh Linh (Ninh Hiep Primary School No. 2, Ninh Hoa); The story of A1 hill - Forever remembering the merits of our ancestors by contestant Le Nhat Quang (To Hap Secondary School, Khanh Son District)...

According to Mr. Dang Quoc Van - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, the organization of the annual Children's Storytelling Contest aims to promote the building and development of a reading culture; making the reading movement a habit and a cultural beauty among teenagers and children. Thereby, helping children improve their reading ability, practice storytelling skills based on books and create a healthy cultural activity during the summer vacation. This year's contest, with the theme "Beloved Vietnam", children introduced stories about historical relics and scenic spots of Vietnam in general and the province in particular. Thereby, contributing to educating the young generation about historical and cultural traditions, love for the homeland and national pride.

This year's Children's Storytelling Contest had the participation of 165 official and supporting contestants from 16 primary and secondary schools selected from the competition rounds in 8 districts, towns and cities in the province. At the end of the contest, the Organizing Committee awarded the collective A prize to Nha Trang; B prize to Ninh Hoa; C prize to Dien Khanh and Van Ninh. In the individual awards, the first prize in the children's age group went to contestant Dinh Thuy Duong (Vinh Hai 2 Primary School, Nha Trang); the first prize in the teenage age group went to contestant Nguyen Tran Bang Lang (Ly Thai To Secondary School, Nha Trang).
