On August 1, Mr. Tran Quoc Huy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong Commune ( Quang Ngai Province), said that he had requested the road management unit (under the provincial Department of Construction) to mobilize vehicles and forces to temporarily fix subsidence points on National Highway 40B, to ensure traffic safety on the route.
According to Mr. Huy, due to the impact of heavy rain, for about a week now, the location Km168+900 (on National Highway 40B) has been sinking. After monitoring for the past 2 days, this sinking point has suddenly become more severe. The length of the road that has sunk is over 20m. The road surface has sunk 0.6m to 1m deep.
“Near the subsidence site, a “death” hole with a diameter of 1 meter and a depth of over 1.2 meters has appeared, causing difficulties for road users and posing a potential risk to traffic safety, especially at night,” said Mr. Huy.
The Tu Mo Rong Commune authorities have placed warning signs in the subsidence area to remind people to be vigilant. At the same time, the Tu Mo Rong Commune People's Committee has also requested the management unit of National Highway 40B to urgently mobilize forces and means to overcome the incident.
It is known that National Highway 40B is 209km long, connecting Tu Mo Rong and Mang Ri communes (Quang Ngai province) to localities of Da Nang city. This is the main traffic route of the western mountainous area of Quang Ngai province and Da Nang city, playing an important role in regional connectivity.
