In the border commune of Hai Son, Ms. San Moc Loc and her husband, a San Chi ethnic group, have chosen a new direction of tourism from sim flowers. Starting their business in 2022, up to now, Ms. Loc and her husband have planted nearly 4 hectares of purple sim on the hill near the top of Ma Thau Son. On the sim hill, Ms. Loc has built more resting huts, swings, and beautiful photo corners. For only 10,000 VND, visitors can enter the garden to visit, take photos and experience the cultural space of the highlands.
"There are always a lot of tourists coming here during the Sim Flower Festival or on weekends. Some people just admire the flowers, while others like to pick sim, pick pineapples, and wear traditional costumes to take souvenir photos. In addition, we also guide you to pull cassava and make cassava cakes right on the spot" - Ms. Loc shared.
Ms. Loc has invested in more than 100 traditional costumes of the San Chi people for tourists to rent at the price of 50,000 VND/set. At the same time, she also serves local dishes such as stream fish, black duck, cassava cake, three-color sticky rice, sim wine... On peak days, her family can serve 60-70 guests, with the support of 2-3 local workers.
The valuable thing is that Ms. Loc's tourism model has inspired the people around. She and her husband mobilized 4 other households to grow different kinds of trees: Apricot, plum, pineapple... dig ponds to raise fish, creating a complete ecological area to develop the "A day as a farmer" experience tour. Thanks to the shift to community tourism, Ms. Loc's family's income is many times higher than before when they only grew acacia and cassava.
With the desire to promote the traditional culture of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic group, Ms. Truong Thi Thanh Huong (Yen Tu ward) boldly invested in a community tourism model, introducing the culture of the Dao Thanh Y people to tourists. In August 2023, Ms. Huong and her family invested nearly 1 billion VND to build the Dao Thanh Y Yen Tu restaurant on an area of 300m². Here, visitors can enjoy traditional cuisine, experience medicinal baths, embroider brocade, make cakes, sing and dance, and learn about Dao cultural rituals.
"When I first started, I was very confused. But with the support of the locality and relatives, I gradually learned and trained the villagers to participate in tourism" - Ms. Huong shared. Thanks to knowing how to take advantage of digital technology , promoting via Facebook and Zalo, Ms. Huong's model quickly attracted many visitors to experience.
Tien Yen land is also changing every day thanks to the contributions of the women here. A typical example is Ms. Le Thi Bich Hanh, President of Tien Yen Investment and Startup Club, CEO of Tien Yen Golden Flower Tea, and owner of Pac Sui homestay. Before starting her business, Ms. Hanh worked as a preschool teacher for 18 years, including 10 years in the highland villages. Living with the people made Ms. Hanh deeply understand both the difficulties and the cultural beauty of this place. In 2021, Ms. Hanh established the Tien Yen Agricultural Products Processing and Consumption Cooperative, both purchasing tea for the people and processing and introducing products through OCOP fairs and digital platforms.
Also in this year, she built Pac Sui homestay, which quickly became an attractive destination. Tourists come here not only to relax, but also to immerse themselves in the green space, bathe in the waterfall, drink tea, enjoy Tien Yen chicken, nodding cake, chat with the locals and experience Dao ethnic culture from foot bath services, costume rental, folk singing...
Ms. Hanh is also active in charity work. As Vice President of Tien Yen Charity Club, she has mobilized hundreds of millions of VND, dozens of tons of rice, and supplies to support people after storms and floods, and to support poor children to study hard...
From Uong Bi, Tien Yen to Hai Son, women like Ms. Loc, Ms. Huong, Ms. Hanh are contributing to opening up new directions for economic development. They not only do tourism and business, but are also the ones who preserve and spread national culture in a practical and sustainable way.
