The mark of Vietnamese women's volleyball: Both sisters are captivating!

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team and the U.21 team had contrasting results at the VTV Cup 2025 International Women's Volleyball Tournament at Vinh Phuc Gymnasium, but both left behind positive signs.

Finding a suitable master

Throughout the Asian Volleyball Championship (AVC Nations Cup) and the recent group stage matches of the VTV Cup International Women's Volleyball Tournament, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet has continued to experiment with the remaining outside hitter position alongside Tran Thi Thanh Thuy. Nguyen Thi Uyen's frequent appearances in the starting lineup and her strong performance compared to her competitors suggest that Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet has found a suitable replacement for Tran Tu Linh, who is unable to participate due to injury.

Nguyen Thi Uyen's consistency in attack and strong defensive support are advantages compared to her two competitors for this position, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh and Nguyen Thi Phuong. Nhu Quynh and Nguyen Thi Phuong, whenever given the opportunity to play, have demonstrated their abilities, providing the coaching staff of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team with more options and a fresh approach to the team's attack. In the opposite hitter position, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen has proven her exceptional role as a "scoring machine" for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team against all opponents.

One of the most impressive performances in the Vietnamese women's volleyball team in recent matches has been from middle blocker Tran Thi Bich Thuy. She effectively utilizes her quick one-legged spikes, surprising opponents. In addition, Bich Thuy demonstrates effective blocking skills, successfully blocking numerous opponent attacks and scoring points for the Vietnamese team. Setter Doan Thi Lam Oanh and libero Nguyen Khanh Dang continue to showcase their experience and composure, remaining indispensable links in the team's core structure. With this cohesive team, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team continues to improve its defense. After conquering the VTV Cup 2025, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team are focusing on rigorous training for the two most important tournaments of the year: the World Championship in August and the SEA Games 33 in December, both in Thailand.

The U.21 volleyball team is improving with each match.

Looking at the results, the Vietnamese U.21 women's volleyball team was disappointing, losing all three matches in the group stage of the VTV Cup 2025 International Women's Volleyball Tournament against Taiwan, Thailand U.21, and Korabelka Club (Russia). However, experts have noticed positive signs in both the players and the playing style of Coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team.

Captain and 19-year-old hitter Dang Thi Hong displayed great composure and confidence, becoming the top scorer for the Vietnam U21 team. 17-year-old talent Pham Quynh Huong also capitalized on her height advantage (1.85 m) to deliver powerful spikes and actively participated in defensive blocking. Coach Nguyen Trong Linh's players showed significant improvement with each match at the VTV Cup 2025. In the match against Thailand U21, the Vietnam U21 team created a back-and-forth game, at times playing better than their opponents. In the match against the Russian team Korabelka, Dang Thi Hong and her teammates also delivered many impressive plays.

Due to limited international competition opportunities, the Vietnamese U21 team is still immature and inconsistent. While they play very well at times, they also lose many points from relatively simple situations. The team lacks uniformity in positions, and the absence of a satisfactory setter is a major headache for the coaching staff. International tournaments like the VTV Cup, featuring high-quality guest teams, offer the U21 team a chance to hone their skills. After this tournament, Dang Thi Hong and her teammates will enter a crucial preparation phase for the U21 World Championship in August in Indonesia. This is the first time the Vietnamese U21 team has qualified for the U21 World Championship, and they hope to achieve a positive result to boost the development of Vietnamese youth volleyball.
