At the 6th International Experimental Theatre Festival - 2025, among the diverse explorations of aesthetics and expressive structures, the musical "Then I Will Grow Up" of the Youth Theatre, directed by Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet, truly created a special mark: both modern, emotional, social, and clearly experimental. The play attracted the audience at the Ba Thang Hai Cultural House - Nam Dinh on the morning of November 26.

Le Anh Tuyet, a female director who is subtle in "putting the issue straight"

Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet does not avoid the thorny issues of contemporary families: lack of listening between parents and children, generation gap, unconscious imposition in the name of love, loneliness of adolescence in one's own home.

The young actors attracted the audience with their singing, dancing and acting talents that were very subtle and emotional.

What is valuable about her is not only her choice of familiar topics, but also the way she addresses the issue directly to society using a youthful, non-pretentious, non-dogmatic artistic language. She does not turn the stage into a lecture forum, but rather turns it into a space for dialogue where each parent must question themselves, where each young person sees the struggles of adulthood.

With the advantage of being a director who has been associated with the Youth Theater for many years, Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet understands very well the "heartbeat" of today's young generation: they are sensitive, hurt, rebellious, but also very pure and long to be understood.

Le Anh Tuyet and the aesthetic experiment rich in identity

"Then I Will Grow Up" (author: Hoang Anh Tu, director: Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet, assistant director: Nguyen Truong Son) does not follow the traditional drama structure but operates according to the "stream of emotions" close to the stream of consciousness structure in modern literature.

With experimental staging techniques, the play "I Will Grow Up" made an impression on the audience at the Festival.

The transitions are not the usual changes in space and time, but rather intentional "psychological jumps": from memory to reality, from thoughts to inner turmoil. This is a courageous choice of the director, because it requires high precision in rhythm, tempo, and the ability to control the emotional space of the entire play.

Particularly creative is the use of “shadow” characters – representing the inner human side of the real character. This technique is deployed by Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet in a subtle way, through contemporary dance, pantomime and body, helping the audience see the inner conflicts that words cannot fully express.

In the world of puberty, no one is completely right, no one is completely wrong and that humanistic spirit is the highlight in her staging thinking.

Young talented faces of the Youth Theater shine in the play "I Will Grow Up"

The combination of drama, musical and modern music genres such as pop, rock, ballad, hip hop... has helped the play become closer to young people without losing its depth of thought.

Under the direction of Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet, music is not just a decoration but becomes a real "emotional character". The creative team has brought youthfulness to awaken all the senses of the audience to see more clearly the responsibility of educating people in today's era.

A strong yet compassionate social message

"When I Grow Up" does not condemn parents, nor does it completely defend the younger generation. The play takes a more difficult approach: naming adult responsibility with empathy, not criticism.

This is not simply a message of a play, but a gentle yet powerful reminder to contemporary society where the speed of life is gradually fading the real presence of parents in the inner world of their children.

The appearance of "Then I Will Grow Up" at the 6th International Experimental Theatre Festival - 2025 is the pride of the Youth Theatre, a positive signal for contemporary Vietnamese theatre when there are still artists like Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet who quietly and steadfastly use art to build bridges between generations.

"Then I Will Grow Up" talks about the maturity of the character and shows the maturity of the theater itself for the young generation in the journey to find their own voice to find sympathy about the value of human education.
