The Minister of Construction has just signed Decision No. 2166/QD-BXD approving the investment project to build and expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway under the public-private partnership method.

Accordingly, the designated investor to implement the project is the Consortium of Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Investment Company (CII), Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company, Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, Tasco Joint Stock Company, Hoang Long Construction Investment Corporation and CII Investment and Service Company Limited.

The total investment of the project is up to 36,172 billion VND, all mobilized by investors. The expressway will be implemented in the form of BOT (build - operate - transfer), collecting tolls to recover capital along the entire route from Ho Chi Minh City to My Thuan Bridge.

According to the design, the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong section will be expanded to 8 lanes, with a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The Trung Luong - My Thuan section will be expanded to 6 lanes, with a design speed of 100 km/h. The project is expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2025, completed and put into operation in 2028, with a payback period of about 17 years and 3 months.

Expanding the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway

The Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong – My Thuan Expressway is currently over 96 km long, connecting from Cho Dem intersection (Ho Chi Minh City) to the northern end of My Thuan 2 Bridge ( Dong Thap ). Of which, the Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong section is 40 km long, put into use since 2010 with 4 lanes.

The 51.1 km Trung Luong - My Thuan section was completed in 2021 but has not yet been equipped with an emergency lane, creating great pressure as traffic increases rapidly.

The expansion of the entire route is considered to be of strategic significance to the key economic region of the South and the Mekong Delta. When completed, the project will resolve the long-standing traffic congestion, increase traffic capacity, and significantly shorten travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to the Western provinces.

In addition, adding emergency lanes helps improve traffic safety and facilitate the transportation of goods, thereby contributing to promoting socio-economic development in the whole region.
