Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee recently announced that after working with the consulting unit, the Ministry of Construction and the construction contractor, the province has set a goal of clearing Mimosa Pass - a section of National Highway 20, within the next 10 days.
This is an important gateway leading to the center of Da Lat, which has just been completely cut off by a large sinkhole, seriously affecting traffic and economic activities in the area.

According to the analysis of experts from the Ministry of Construction: The main cause of this incident is the impact of heavy rain that lasted for many days. The amount of water accumulated from the cliff has caused the basalt layer under the roadbed to swell, thereby destroying the foundation structure, causing the area to seriously subside. Currently, the authorities are considering two technical solutions to thoroughly handle this incident.
The first option is to build a viaduct across the unstable area. The advantage of this option is that it does not depend on weak ground and can completely handle the problem of groundwater causing landslides. Construction time will be shortened if prefabricated structures are applied, however this option requires the mobilization of specialized equipment and materials on a large scale.

The second option is to fill the road with rock to create a base and re-pave the road. The rock fill will allow water to drain easily, reducing water pressure in the cavities and limiting the risk of re-sliding.
This option combines longitudinal and cross drainage systems and slope reinforcement to improve the durability of the affected road section.
Regarding this plan, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi also said that the province has prepared a large supply of stone and is ready to quickly implement this plan if selected.

Deputy Director of Lam Dong Province Department of Construction Hoang Anh Tuan added: The Ministry of Construction has not yet finalized the final plan. It is possible that an overpass will be built to ensure the safety and long-term sustainability of National Highway 20. Meanwhile, the immediate requirement is to prevent landslides from spreading, and at the same time open a temporary road to resume traffic within the next 10 days. The construction unit is urgently implementing the work of opening the temporary road, with the goal of opening the route earlier than planned to promote the continuous economic activities of the province.
In addition, regarding the incident at Prenn Pass, Lam Dong Department of Construction also said that the units have implemented measures to drive piles in the center of the road to reinforce the foundation and prevent the cracks from growing wider. When the foundation is stabilized, it is expected that half of the road surface will be opened to traffic to maintain important traffic into the center of Da Lat. However, the specific time to complete the work depends on weather conditions in the coming time.
Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee affirmed that all solutions to handle the incident were implemented within the framework of the previously announced natural disaster emergency situation, creating conditions to mobilize maximum human resources and equipment along with minimizing administrative procedures to "open a safe way" as soon as possible, contributing to ensuring smooth and stable traffic in the area.
