According to the latest preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, in the first 15 days of January (January 1-15, 2024), footwear export turnover only reached 820 million USD, down nearly 20% compared to the same period in 2023 (equivalent to a decrease in turnover of more than 200 million USD).
Among Vietnam's main export groups, footwear is the group that had the most difficult start.
Although Vietnam is the world's leading footwear exporter, this industry has recently faced many difficulties.
For example, in 2023, footwear exports of all kinds reached only 20.24 billion USD, down 15.3% (equivalent to a decrease of 3.66 billion USD) compared to the previous year.
In terms of export markets last year, the United States led with a turnover of 7.16 billion USD, but decreased sharply by 25.5% compared to 2022.
Other notable markets include: EU reached 4.91 billion USD, down 18.1%; reached 1.87 billion USD, up 9.4%; ASEAN reached 547 million USD, up 26.1%...
The above developments show that, in the context of difficulties in large, traditional markets, the footwear industry has had many solutions to expand its market, especially markets in the Asian region.
