Identified as one of the three important pillars of the economy, in recent years, agricultural production in the province has continued to receive investment and development attention. The agricultural restructuring program has been promoted. Agricultural production has undergone a strong shift from small-scale production to concentrated production in the direction of commodity production, forming a chain of links. Trade promotion activities and supply-demand connections are increasingly diverse and flexible. The value of agricultural products is therefore increasingly enhanced. That is the content of the interview of Ha Nam Newspaper reporter (PV) with Mr. Do Xuan Truong, Chairman of the Provincial Cooperative Union (Cooperative).
PV: In the context of increasingly narrowing agricultural land area, increasing economic value per unit of cultivated land area is an inevitable requirement for localities today; in which, cooperatives play an important role in forming a value chain linking agricultural production. How has that been implemented in Ha Nam, sir?
Mr. Do Xuan Truong: Implementing the Resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress and the Resolution of the 6th Congress of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, in recent years, the activities of the Provincial Cooperative Alliance have been gradually consolidated. On the basis of innovation in both content and operation methods, the role of the Cooperative Alliance has been increasingly affirmed; thereby, contributing to promoting the collective economy (KTTT) and cooperatives to develop in the fields of production and business; creating linkages and value chains to contribute to promoting the continued development of the province's economy.
Currently, the province has 244 cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector; of which 38 cooperatives are operating in the value chain, an increase of 8 units compared to 2023. Cooperatives operate in the form of association, enterprises sign contracts to place orders, then send technical staff to guide technical processes and directly participate in production with cooperative members. When it comes to harvest, enterprises directly come to purchase according to the agreed contract; Cooperatives play a bridging role, both ensuring the rights of cooperative members and ensuring the interests of enterprises in the linkage from production to consumption... Some cooperatives have proactively developed plans and production processes in the direction of VietGAP; OCOP standards to create quality products that bring high economic efficiency. PV: Looking at the above “picture”, it can be seen that cooperatives have really played a role in organizing and managing production. However, in order for cooperatives to actively participate in trade promotion activities, connecting supply and demand, and improving the value chain in agricultural production, it is impossible not to mention the “midwife” role of the Provincial Cooperative Union?
Mr. Do Xuan Truong: That's right! In recent years, the Provincial Cooperative Union has proactively coordinated with departments and branches to select and support cooperatives to participate in trade promotion programs and fairs organized by the Vietnam Cooperative Union and the Provincial Cooperative Unions, in order to help cooperatives have the opportunity to introduce, promote, and connect in production and consumption of products. 2023 is the fourth consecutive year that the Provincial Cooperative Union has organized the Trade Promotion Conference. The annual conference has brought many positive results, contributing significantly to the development of markets inside and outside the province. Many cooperatives and enterprises supplying and consuming products have connected with each other and signed cooperation contracts in organizing production, supplying and consuming products and goods. After the conference, many economic contracts between cooperatives and cooperatives, cooperatives and enterprises were signed and successfully implemented. Many agricultural products were purchased and sold jointly between producers and distribution enterprises. The above products are mainly brought to supermarkets in Hanoi and exported to the Japanese market.
It can be affirmed that the conference on trade promotion and product consumption connection has created a bridge for cooperatives and enterprises between provinces and cities to contact, exchange information, grasp consumption needs, support localities to bring goods into the distribution system, expand the market to provinces and cities with large consumption such as: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen.
Reporter: It is known that the Conference on Trade Promotion and Supply-Demand Connection is an annual activity of the Provincial Cooperative Union. In 2024, with the motto "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" and "Vietnamese goods conquer Vietnamese consumers", what is the goal of the conference, sir?
Mr. Do Xuan Truong: It must be affirmed that trade promotion activities, regional linkages, and supply-demand connections between Ha Nam and other provinces and cities in the region and across the country have been actively implemented in recent years, contributing to enhancing trade in products and goods of Ha Nam in particular and provinces and cities in general, promoting the circulation of goods in the market. Many products with strengths and specialties of Ha Nam and other localities and regions (OCOP) have been widely promoted, gradually penetrating modern distribution channels and most of the products have been present in the market in major provinces and cities such as: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh and are favored and trusted by consumers, especially seasonal products, basically overcoming the situation of "good harvest, low price, bad harvest, high price".
In 2024, in order to promote and advertise brands, honor clean and safe agricultural, forestry and fishery products; create a bridge between cooperatives, businesses and consumers, between production and consumption... in addition to exhibitions, displays and product introductions, the conference will create space for cooperatives, businesses and distributors inside and outside the province to seek opportunities for cooperation in production and product consumption. Thereby promoting the efficiency and quality of agricultural production activities, contributing to the restructuring of the agricultural economy in localities. At the same time, consulting on the construction of production cooperative models associated with the consumption of key industries and products with strengths of the province. Supporting the connection and introduction of new technologies, advanced technologies, suitable for the production conditions of cooperatives and cooperative groups to improve productivity, product quality, production efficiency and competitiveness of products in the market.
With the potential and strengths of a locality with many favorable conditions for developing high-quality agricultural production, in the coming time, the Provincial Cooperative Union will further promote its role in connecting with provinces and cities in the Northern key economic region; the Northern provinces and cities and the whole country in production and consumption of products. Thereby, promoting comprehensive and sustainable agricultural development, truly assuming the role of a solid pillar of economic security.
