According to a report by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), significant rainfall recorded in provinces such as Vinh Long, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau (over 100mm) has contributed to reducing salinity in soil and surface water.

Salinity levels at stations on major rivers such as Vam Co, Cua Tieu, Cua Dai, Ham Luong, Co Chien, and Hau River are all lower than the highest levels recorded in May 2024. The 4‰ salinity intrusion range at river mouths varies from 25–37km, depending on the area.
The extent of saltwater intrusion over the past 10 days:
| Station | River | Salinity intrusion level (km) |
|---|---|---|
| Peace | Small Gate | 18 |
| Loc Thuan | Cua Dai | 18 |
| An Thuan | Ham Luong | 10 |
| Son Doc | Ham Luong | 20 |
| Ben Trai | 10 |
Forecasts from the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting indicate that this positive trend will continue until the end of May. The Southern region will continue to experience many days of showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall generally ranging from 40–80mm, and even higher in some areas. Maximum temperatures will be between 30–33°C, creating favorable conditions for the continued reduction of saltwater intrusion.
