Quang Ninh province has many rivers, streams, lakes, and the sea, thus posing a high risk of drowning. To ensure children have a safe and enriching summer, schools are paying special attention to equipping students with drowning prevention skills, especially before the summer break. At schools, coordinated efforts to raise awareness and equip students with drowning prevention skills are implemented flexibly and creatively by integrating the message into flag-raising ceremonies, extracurricular activities, and practical experience programs.

Mr. Doan Van Hai, Principal of Tien Phong Primary and Secondary School (Lien Hoa Ward), said: “The school regularly organizes extracurricular activities that incorporate content on preventing drowning. Through interactive sessions, question-and-answer sessions, and visual demonstrations, students are equipped with knowledge about the causes and risks of drowning accidents; they learn to identify potentially dangerous areas and are guided on skills to prevent and handle situations when encountering incidents in the water. At the same time, the school also strengthens coordination with parents in managing students during the summer, minimizing the number of unfortunate accidents that may occur.”
As the summer vacation approaches this year, localities throughout the province have simultaneously implemented various measures to reduce drowning accidents. The Provincial Party Committee issued document No. 453-CV/TU (dated May 6, 2026) on continuing to strengthen leadership and guidance in the prevention of accidents and injuries, especially drowning accidents, among children and students in the province during the summer.

According to Vu Khac Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Lien Hoa Ward People's Committee: To proactively prevent drowning, the ward has intensified propaganda efforts, raising awareness among parents, students, and residents; reviewing areas with potential safety risks, and implementing warning and accident prevention measures. To date, the ward has completed the installation of 100 warning signs at locations with a high risk of drowning.
Drowning accidents can happen at any time, but they are entirely preventable if students are equipped with adequate skills. Therefore, along with intensified awareness campaigns, many localities, schools, departments, and associations throughout the province have actively participated in organizing swimming lessons. Among these, free swimming classes are becoming a vital source of essential survival skills for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

To contribute to preventing drowning accidents among children during the summer, Youth Unions at all levels in the province have intensified propaganda efforts, surveyed areas with potential risks to erect warning signs, and added safety barriers. They have also organized many free swimming lessons. As part of the 2026 drowning prevention program, the Provincial Youth Union aims for Youth Unions in communes, wards, and special zones to organize at least 2-3 free swimming classes during the summer.
Preventing drowning among children is not only the responsibility of families, schools, and local authorities, but also requires the collective effort of the entire society. In fulfilling its corporate social responsibility towards the community, especially in the care and protection of children, AES Mong Duong Power Company (Mong Duong Ward) has sponsored a project worth 655 million VND for Mong Duong Secondary School to organize free swimming lessons, drowning prevention programs for students, and provide a schoolyard canopy.
According to Nguyen Van Tuyen, the principal of Mong Duong Secondary School: "This summer, the school is organizing swimming classes for 200 students. They will learn swimming skills; drowning prevention and response skills; and rescue techniques in case of drowning. The goal is that after the course, 100% of the students will have mastered the swimming skills and techniques to protect themselves."
The concerted efforts of schools, families, and society will contribute to building a safe living environment so that children can have a joyful, enriching summer without the worry of drowning accidents.
