To make Nha Trang more beautiful in the eyes of tourists

Việt NamViệt Nam03/08/2023

Nha Trang tourism has made an impressive recovery after a long period of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, tourism activities still have some problems that need to be resolved soon to create a better impression in the eyes of tourists.

Impressive recovery

Recently, tourism activities in Nha Trang City have been very vibrant. The events of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Sea Festival 2023, the Program of linking to develop Vietnam tourism brand through cinema, 8Wonder Music Festival... have contributed to attracting tourists to the coastal city. According to the report of Nha Trang City, in the first 6 months of 2023, the city welcomed more than 2.1 million overnight guests; including 601,700 international visitors; tourism revenue reached 9,698 billion VND. The revival of Nha Trang tourism can be seen through the bustling footsteps of tourists on the streets; beaches crowded with people playing; tourist attractions crowded with tourists... That recovery has contributed bright colors to the tourism picture of the province in recent times. “The number of visitors to Nha Trang accounts for 60 - 70% of the total number of visitors to the province. The city has 20 famous tourist attractions and large tourist areas, such as Vinpearl, Hon Tam Tourist Area, tourist attractions in Nha Trang Bay, Ponagar Tower, Oceanographic Museum and attractive entertainment services such as scuba diving, mud bathing…”, said Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh - Director of the Department of Tourism.

To help tourism develop, in addition to new, high-class tourism services of tourism businesses such as the show of That Theater (Vega City Tourism and Entertainment Complex), the diving service to explore the ocean of Ana Park Company Limited in Vinh Hoa Ward, the city has also strengthened the security, order and safety for tourists; continued to implement Resolution No. 18 of the City Party Committee on strengthening the leadership of the Party in the management of land, minerals, construction order and urban order and beauty; strengthened propaganda to implement the Code of Conduct for civilized tourism; expanded the movement "For a green - clean - beautiful tourism environment" ... contributing to maintaining a good image with tourists. In addition, the city has also established a Project to pilot a smart urban model in Nha Trang City (being submitted to the Provincial People's Committee for approval); established a Project to develop cultural and historical tourism, community tourism to promote the traditional cultural values of the locality.

Need to overcome the shortcomings

However, in the overall picture of tourism development, the city still has shortcomings and limitations that need to be overcome. These include the situation of homemade electric cyclos running unsafely; street vendors clinging to tourists in coastal parks and tourist attractions (Long Son Pagoda, Nha Trang Tourist Wharf, etc.) that have not been completely resolved; traffic jams that often occur on Vo Thi Sau Street during rush hour have caused difficulties in transporting tourists on island tours. In particular, Nha Trang Tourist Wharf still exists and has many shortcomings in its operation. “After 3 years of operation, there are still 11 fishing boats anchored in the water area of the pier, causing difficulties and hindering the entry and exit of tourist boats. In addition, because the pier does not have a gas or oil supply station, vehicle owners have to use plastic cans to transport fuel to the pier to refuel, posing a potential risk of fire and explosion,” said Mr. Huynh Binh Thai - Head of Nha Trang Bay Management Board (the unit managing Nha Trang Tourist Wharf).

At a recent meeting with Nha Trang City leaders on tourism activities in the city, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh suggested that the city should establish a cyclo union to manage people working as tourist cyclo drivers. To solve traffic congestion, Mr. Cao Tan Loi - Deputy Director of the Department of Transport said that Vinh Truong Ward needs to coordinate with the City Urban Management Department to solve the problem of encroachment on the road and sidewalks in the area of Vo Thi Sau Street; organize reasonable traffic flow. Regarding this issue, the leader of Nha Trang City People's Committee said that the city has implemented a plan to regulate road vehicles from the wharf to the city center through An Vien Urban Area to Tran Phu Street. However, the area of the Institute of Oceanography and Nha Trang Port also experienced traffic congestion during rush hour. Therefore, the city proposed that the Provincial People's Committee pay attention to allocating capital to invest in phase 2 of the embankment road from Vinh Truong Ward's fishing wharf to Binh Tan Bridge to solve traffic congestion in this area.

At the meeting, Mr. Ho Van Mung - Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Nha Trang City Party Committee emphasized that "Preserving the beautiful image of Nha Trang is first and foremost the responsibility of the locality". Accordingly, the People's Committee of Nha Trang City must have a plan to thoroughly handle the situation of street vendors soliciting tourists; the Urban Management Department coordinates with Vinh Truong Ward and Vinh Nguyen Ward to effectively implement Resolution No. 18 of the City Party Committee to resolve the situation of street vendors encroaching on sidewalks; vehicles stopping and parking in the wrong places. The Nha Trang Bay Management Board proactively develops a plan to manage the Nha Trang Tourist Wharf to ensure business, but must ensure aesthetics and create convenience for tourists. "Airports, train stations, and wharves are the places where tourists come the most. If they do not do well, they will lose points with tourists", Mr. Ho Van Mung expressed.

Mr. LE HUU HOANG - Permanent Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee: The relevant departments need to develop a plan to relocate fishing boat moorings out of the water surface of Nha Trang Tourist Wharf. Nha Trang City People's Committee shall take the lead in developing a plan to resolve traffic congestion to facilitate the transportation of tourists to the sea and islands; agree on the policy for the city to review and add new diving spots; proactively select locations and call for investment in night-time economic services and products according to the night-time economic development project approved by the province...
